Ebay users are stealing my pictures and hosting. So AW is chargeing me. Same guy just did it about 10 times and another about 5 times.

Can I do anything about this? Report them or complain somewhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If they are linking directly to your photo, replace it with a large image of something. Or text that states, "this seller is a thief". You can also contact eBay -- if they are linking to your photos, eBay will likely end the auction.

Is there anything else I can do? Or is this just a grin and bear it situation.

It just took me 25 minutes to fill out all the refunds.

Its to bad because all the auctions have ended already.

I like your idea of replaceing the picture. I have some excellent pictures in mind.

That's the ticket. Use your imagination with a picture....

Find the overused picture of the guy reflected in the teapot and replace one of your pictures with it.

There are Java scripts you can add to your items that prevent someone from "right clicking" to get your pic URL....

The first (and only) time this happened to me I replaced the pic (of a beanie) with a picture of my cats rear end.....

Certain types of Javascript are not permissable on ebay. Particularly the kinds which "push" an activity on the user's browser such as opening another window with the seller's website and scripts containing cookies.

The script that wlaschin is referring to triggers a warning window to open when the user uses the right-mouse button to get at the "save image as" selection. You can find one of these scripts at:

http://www.codebrain.com/javascript/noRightClick/

These scripts are only minimally effective and are assuming that the person is a complete idiot. It is quite easy to disable or bypass this in many ways but at least it's something.

Most people "steal" the pic by "right clicking" to get the URL and are lazy idiots. Ebay will remove an auction with a stolen pic (given enough time).

If someone is using your AW webspace, I'd start by changing your password to AW.

Replace the picture with a text message that reads " Please contact me off line if you are interested in this item so I can avoid paying Ebay's outragous fees". Then report the auction to Safeharbor.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

No need. This assumes that a user somehow needed access to the seller's AW account to utilize the picture. All a person has to do is find the correct image link in their auction description and hot link to it.

eBay is quicker to respond and end the thief's auction when hotlinked to your image host. I personally like putting up obscene pictures, but sparkz's suggestion is pretty cool.

Now only if I can get this guy in Argentina to stop using my pictures in his auctions... I can't just change the picture because I have several other people hotlinking to my image with permission.

I would say just emboss your name at the bottom of the pic.

I also definately like the idea of switching the pics

Also Java is most likely not allowed,
but i am sure that javascript is allowed.

If they are in Georgia, they may want to read this.

http://www.clark.net/pub/rothman/ga.htm

Also if you are paying for his usage you may want to file a theft report with his local police. My partner did that and the person that was linking to our photos was very eager to pay part of our hosting bill.

You could always change the picture and replace
it with the following text.

THE WINNER OF THIS AUCTION WILL RECEIVE FREE OVER-NIGHT SHIPPING
GUARANTEED OR A 50% DISCOUNT OFF THE FINAL BID

I don't know how AW hosting works ...

If you can control the name of the uploaded pisture, just upload a new one of the same name. I like the suggestion to add text to the picture that says "Successful bidder gets a 50% discount AND free shipping" and upload again.

There was a picture of a RAT, with texct about the photo having been stolen by a stinking RAT, and if they would be dishonest enough to steal puictures, do you really want to bid on this item.

If all you can do is DELETE, DELETE Real quick after the EOA. If the person is a chronic picture thief, start a few auctions, and when they steal the picture, END your auction and mess with the pics.

SUN818 -
Sign up for the VERO program, put a (C) symbol with your username on the pictures, and report the SOB to eBay for theft of intellectual property.
They will get all kinds of auctions yanked, and YOU get to pull the plug.

This is probably a stupid question but how do you know if someone is stealing or using your pics?

Well before I read the post on saying free shipping and all that(which is great).

I took a pic I had of the WTC collapseing and wrote underneath it "I proudly support Osma Bin Laden and all proceeds will be contributed to his effort".

The auctions were cancelled within 10 minutes.

A little over kill but i spent nearly 25 minutes applying for refunds.

How I noticed, was when I was applying for a NPB refund on an auction and was looking for the ref id # of that auction and saw a whole bunch of hosting charges.

I dont get charged for hosting.

So, I checked the item numbers provided and low and behold a few people were stealing them.

Well it worked. lol And at the time I was very well pissed off.

Considering a couple of the pictures were actual screen shots of personal items.

I can just imagine how the buyer would feel if he received something that didnt look anything like the picture in the auction.

I have the rat but don't know how to share it....... it's in my 'briefcase'.

I got it from ebay emergency board a long time ago.

If you can tell me HOW to do it I'll post it here.....

WOW! That's better than using full-frontal nudity, or oozing body parts from a tropical disease site.

paloma91 - You can search for ALL auctions using your photos by searching for your AW account path. If anything pops up that is not yours, delete the picture and edit your auction to include a new image with a new name.

If the auction has ended, you can upload the picture of your choice

You could also do this. Add the following text to the stolen picture. "ebay seller MY EBAY NAME has this item also. Inserting your ebay name onto the image.

I would then create another picture and file it as widget 2, for your use on your auctions. If you would like, let them keep the original picture and possibly filter a few buyers to your auctions. It may be worth the dime.

In spite of what you do, you should be checking their pictures probally weekly.
