Leslie,
You might not like hearing this but, IMO, "free" websites are often just as good as what you pay for them.
If you are looking to use it for hosting ebay pictures, many have restrictions against that. Others have restrictions on commercial use of their space. Others give you space but you can't use a domain name with it.
There are a few ISPs (worldnet comes to mind) which give you free webspace w/your subsciption & don't make unreasonable demands on it's use.
Other "free" sites have rapidly either turn to pay for use or gone under.
You might want to review some of the pay for use sites which seem to be really good, like fatcow. Better to pay a few dollars & get something stable than to get it for free but not be able to use it for what you want.

i agree, there is no free lunch, why free?would you work for free?if so,how do you pay your bills?
AOL has webspace for every email account, and a member can have multiple email accounts, that comes with the subcription fee, which is 19.95 per month if you prepaid one year.
sam club has some offer too, check it out.

I have deleted your post because linking or posting URLs to other Message Centers is not permitted . It is particularly inappropriate when the thread linked is the discussion of services in competition with those provided by AuctionWatch.
You are welcome to post again, without the link, but please remember to keep your post non-promotional.
Thanks for your cooperation.

Eventer is right. I've gone through 2 free websites already. Just found out today when I went to check my site hits that the 2nd one was "unavailable" for some reason. Don't know if it was a temporary thing or not, but it doesn't look good for people to click on my website link and get nothing. (Notice my sig line here is now missing?)
For me, I've decided I don't need a website since I'm not trying to solicit off-site sales anyway.

You can get 20MB of webspace for less than $20.00/ year at some hosting sites, and you get a domain name (and unlimited email addresses) on top of it.
Last time I used a free site, they cancelled my account when I had about 50 auctions running, and about 10 MB of photos on their server. This left me scrambling to fix (and in some cases, cancel) auctions.
Fork out the cash. You'll be glad you did.

Reliable Free
That is an oxymoron
You get what you pay for! If it is free, you have no right to complain or expect it to be reliable.

rewassago--- (or anyone else)
Could you recommend any reliable and reasonably
priced (not free) websites and perhaps give a
very brief description of what you get for the price. Feel free to e-mail (may be better than posting) at: [email protected]

Thanks so much for the advice everyone! I was actaully asking the question for a friend. He decided in the long run that it would be easier to use a cheaper 'pay' site than a free website considering all the problems he has had in the past.
Thanks again!

I've tried several "large" sites that had free hosting, most in a few months or after about a year had to start charging, which was fine, but they waited so long to start charging their service was no longer reliable.
We have several sites, one is on earthlink which is our ISP, not the best but good. Really I've tried at least a dozen of the popular names and finely settled with Yahoo. I have a yahoo store and I use geocities to host my pictures for the auctions(which is against their rules I believe) but if you get over the limit on bandwidth they will turn off your account(metered hourly) if you exceed your allotted bandwidth. This really stinks because your pictures will not pull up.
Now I don't know how many pictures your hosting or what you are trying to do but we have over 300 hosted pictures on yahoo and we run aprox 400 auctions at a time with about 1600 auction views on the heaviest days. You could run several accounts and if your only running a few don't worry about it until and unless you get the over the band width email. We ended up going with their hosting service and they cost 12.00 a month, I don't know that they have ever been down and the pictures load faster than any server we have ever used.
Sorry but I have to agree with some of the others you get what you paid for.
eBay fees are like being slowly pecked to death by chickens!!!

Hello mandalore,
It appears you are very enthusiastic about the website in your last post. However, since the majority of the wording is promotional, I need to ask that you edit.
In specifics, please remove the promotional language and try to stick to the facts.
Thank you in advance,
Marty

They do have a money back guarantee period.
