Hi Thekismeme!

I did the same exact thing as you! I too, need counters, but will not go with the Andale counters.

Auctiva said months ago that the counters are Not on their top priority list (even though we paid for that service!)
I wrote to Vrane last week about the counters and never received a reply.

I do miss the counters!

rubylane.com counters are the only way to go.

Two days ago I would have agreed that Ruby Lane was the way to go. Now they have changed due to too many free subscribers and server overload. I have not been able to view my counters since and was wondering if there are any others.

I've had no problem viewing my counters via ruby lane in the past few days?

Mine are working fine, too. Maybe you should ask for help? The only thing that's changed is the refresh time, I think.

I wanted to add...I liked them so well, I subscibed. The graphs are great, and he's going to have category counters soon. I think that will be very useful for determining which categories are best. He hasn't said when that will be implemented, though.

Here's the announcement as of Oct 6--

http://sydney.rubylane.com/ubb/Forum13/HTML/000344.html

They are queueing requests with a refresh time of 5 and 10 for subscribers/non-subscribers. I have managed to get in once (two minutes ago) since Sunday morning and could not get in at all last night when I really needed to. I don't quite understand the 5 and 10 since I was trying for a couple of hours last night and never got in.

We monitor our counter server resources very carefully to ensure that counters always pop up quickly on auction and web pages.

There is a 1 in 20 chance of a free user getting a message to wait 10-15 seconds and try again to check counters. If anyone could not read counters for 2 hours, then they likely have a browser cache setting set to Never or something and are seeing a page stored locally on their computer or their ISP's cache server, or they should post a note on our support board about it.

The load controls are very necessary to ensure things don't crash and burn and our service remains reliable. We felt it was better for a free user (seller) viewing counters to be a little inconvenienced rather than a) making everyone pay or b) taking forever to load counters on auction pages or c) having the counter service blow up.

The growth rate of our free users is approximately 20-30 times that of our subscribers, which is the reason the load controls are mainly necessary on that side.

Edited: we don't queue the requests to view counters for 5/10 minutes. But once you have viewed your counters, subscribers have to wait 5 minutes and freebies have to wait 10 minutes before refreshing their counters. The reason for this is that a few users sit on the Reload button every 5-10 seconds causing server overloads. There is a timer at the bottom that lets you know when you can refresh the page.

Also, the freebie load controls are "smart" in that they do not automatically kick in 1 in 20 times. The freebie user only has to wait if there are too many other freebie users trying to view counters at the same time.
