According to this article
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,36371,00.html
If you take this article at its word, not much of the donations are being distributed to the victims' families and survivors. Once again, though not perfect, it seems that the Red Cross is the only one making any genuine effort to get money out.

Also, has anyone figured how the Federal Government bailout to victims (which they deserve)is going to make charities like these pretty meaningless anyway??

I saw a similar story on CNN a few nights ago. They had the head of the United Way on their program from New York and the reporter was blasting him because out of $86 million dollars collected NONE of the money has gone to victims' families. In fact only $6 million had been distributed so far and that was to so called programs. I’ll tell you the guy from the United Way was very nervous and didn’t really know what to say that had any real content. The reporter also had four families on that lost people in the bombing and NONE of them have heard a word from any of the various charities that are supposedly offering assistance to the victims' families.
This really has to make you wonder if these charities are taking advantage of America’s willingness to give in time of crisis and are using the funds for their own agenda instead of what it is intended for.

kolonel22, it's not just the charities that are basking in the good-will of the tragedy. Look at all the advertising that is trying to make something off the suffering. I just saw a auto commercial that said that they're contribution was offering their customers 0% financing. Wouldn't have anything to do with the Fed cutting the rates down to almost 0, would it, nope just their contribution...
Sick.

As a former Exec of a large Red Cross Chapter, I can tell you that VERY LITTLE of the moneys donated will directly assist the families of the 9/11 tragedy. If you want to help, send your donations to one of the many victim assistance funds that have been set up at NY banks. The Red Cross WILL, however, use a lot of that money to provide aid to "other" countries....Guess which ones!
By the way, "MEG" and her sack of AfA money is being auctioned on Y**hoo.

Does anyone have a "best guess" on how much has been collected from the A4A auctions? No official statements from "the site" despite pressure from sellers. It's going to me a loooooong 100 days!
