Hi all, I need help again. Went to a yard sale this morning and this girl had some purses for sale. When I looked at them I saw Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Dooney&Bourke, and something else I can't recall right now. So I say, "how much are your purses?", and she says "oh, $1.00 each". Needless to say I bought them all. Now how do I tell if they are authentic? I know it has something to do with #'s. Where are those numbers? HELP!! BTW they are all brand new.

You know the old saying....
If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
I would guess that they are knockoffs. I don't think even somebody who is a half wit would sell the "real thing" for a dollar. But, look at it this way, even for a dollar you probably got some really nice purses.

BUT, how do I tell if they are real? I don't want to sell them if they aren't real and I don't want to keep them if they are.

I do know that Louis Vuitton never cuts the monogram, the LV that is spread throughout the purse, it will never be on a seam or cut, it ( the LV monogram) is always whole.
Also, tags on the inside that say Made in China tell you they are fakes.

Hello, The D&B knockoffs are usually vynal or plastic glued to a heavy swede lining (they try to simulate heavy leather) Also the seam rolls are pure plastic and the strap edges are of poor quality. The brass hangers and the D&B Logos are sometimes good imitations - Always look closely at the leather outside surface. It helps to go to a shop and look at new bags feel and smell the leather - Its easy to tell a fake if youve seen the real thing. Dont be put off by a low yardsale price - Ive bought originals in fair condition for as low as 50 cents.
Good Luck !

Hi again, I think I have determined the Louis Vuitton is a fake , however now my question is since I don't want the purse can I still sell it on Ebay as long as I make it perfectly understood it is being sold as just a purse and is definately not authentic and even leave out the Louis Vuitton part?

I have 2 dooney's and the zippers are metal, not plastic. The Fobs are rather heavy too, solid brass. They are all leather, and the purses themselves are heavy. The interior of the d&b's are clearly leather. Alot of the Dooney's also have brass "feet" on the bottom. I'm not sure if they all do though. The tag on the inside of mine, (which I'm sure can be copied) is white w/red writing and there is a # on the back I do believe. The emblem is stitched on, and everything is leather. The best thing to do is to go to a reputable retail store and look at them. Like OK said, you'll know the difference after seeing one. They are just so well made, I think they would survive about anything! I have a friend who has had one for 6 years or so, she really wants a new purse, but hers still looks GREAT!
I went to a yard sale last summer and bought 2 real dooney's and 2 real coach's for $5 each. Sold them for over $100 on ebay.

According to eBay rules, you cannot sell a fake Louis Vuitton purse, even if you are forthright in stating that it is a fake.
Now practically, you could just list it as "a purse", and do not use the words Louis Vuitton. You might get a few bucks for it but still run the risk of your auction getting VEROed.

The fakes look so real, but imagine there must be something in the purse to verify that it is real or fake. My friend works for a major airline and she said that if a LV is ripped or torn and they send it into the factory for repair, if it is a fake they will not return it.

Hi Libra, Unfortunately the conterfiters sometimes even copy the stamps and serial #s on bags - One of my customers brought some bags in for repair- She was so happy about her new Coach bag - Said a friend of a friend who works for Coach had given her a great deal at 80 dollars - It was a fake big as life - It was all plastic even the authentic coach stamp and serial number were there - They copied that also - the only way to tell is "Know thy subject well" before you buy. And yes if you sent a copycat bag to the company for repair they would surely keep it. Ive seen flea market venders who deal in copys have all their merchandise confiscated by police - I dont think you will have much trouble with one or two bags if you used them yourself.
Best of Luck
