It says first prinintg 1978 but nothing about edtion
what is the difference ?
How would you describe it ? should I list it in the 1st edtion catagory?

"Edition" in the publisher's nomenclature is a reference to text. Until something substantial is added or removed from the text, the "edition" is considered to be the first, so you can have for example a first edition, 13th printing. "Printing" is a lot more important term for collectors, because it is in the vast majority of cases the actual 1st publication for distribution of any book. The 1st printing may have minor textual errors that are corrected in subsequent printings, different jacket text/prices etc., and is the preferred version of any 1st "edition."

Whether it's a first edition or not depends on the publisher. However, if it says first printing, it probably is a first edition.

If you email me the book's details (publisher especially) I can verify if it's a first edition.

greedbay
thanks for the info I don't sell a lot of books and have seen both so now I understand
Denise
Thanks for the offer and the sites
I have researched it and the book is availble new on amazon for 35.00 sells on ebay for 5-10
The book is " The memoirs of Richard Nixon"
on one of the leafs it has printed "This Copy signed by the author" below in ink the richard nixon signature and on the next page the RN within a circle that was his way of initialing documents
It looks like the value is probaly more in the presidential signatre than in the book itself.
maybe I will list under both first edtions and a political catagory
not a bad buy for 1.80
I am sure I will at least double my money
spock here......
