i have never retracted a bid before, or tried to, until today. ..background...late last night i accidently bid on 2 identical cd's, i noticed it this morning when i checked the items i am bidding on...i tried to retract the bid on 2nd one. it ends in about 10 hours. ebay would not allow me to retract ands i was given this message....
"Your retraction request was not accepted
We are sorry, but your retraction request was not accepted. The bid you are retracting, placed more than an hour ago is for an auction that ends in 12 hours or less."
interesting, never have heard of this before. looks like it definetly helps when high bids are made early on to "protect" an item then retracted near the end so the item will go cheaply...........
anyone ever run across this before......
no biggie on my retraction i guess, if i win both i will give one as a gift.......

it used to be 8 hours before auction ends, there will be no retraction.
this is to prevent shill bidding, seller using a different id or seller asking his friend to outbid true bidder and then in last minutes,if no one tops his bid, retract and the true bidder who bidded with proxy ends up paying higher price.
lesson is bid carefully and be ready to honor your bid.
i have one guy who keeps bidding and keep retracting as he finds similar item at lower price.
