Im moving inventory - The fast movers are doing well - the sleeper stuff does ok but with a fair min bid to set it up. Keep your hands busy and the money will come - unless your selling used beer cans or dried worms
Good Luck

Yup. Steady bids, including things that didn't get bids in the summer. Nothing out of sight, but steady. Looks like it may even be my best month so far this year.

My items are selling. Since 9/11 I have had a few slow days but not many.
ONLY 69 days til Christmas!
Listed an item last night at $9.99 bidding is at $46.00. For me that is EXCELLENT!

Hang in there...bids seem to be coming in slowly but steadily. My overall sales are down a bit but we have a good number of Buy It Nows in the last couple of weeks and that has helped take up some of the slack.
I suppose it depends on what you sell...we sell handcrafted items that are similar but not exactly the same as our competitors.
In times like these I really feel for those selling new stuff that 50 others are also trying to sell. That must be a really rough way to go right now.
Best of luck. Perhaps things will pick up as we approach Halloween and Thanksgiving. Keep the faith.

I am a small time seller but I had 7 sales end last night and only 1 without a bid. 3 of them were for items I tried to get $5.00 apiece for at a yard sale 2 weeks ago. They sold for a total of more than $230.00. I am doing happy dance right now.

Bids are starting to slowly come in...hopefully others are doing what I've decided to do: I've made the effort to support my fellow Ebay sellers by trying to do as much of my gift buying through the auctions as I can.

My sell through rate is about 50%. Down from past years but I can live with 50%

My last two batches of auctions sold with about a 75% completion rate, which is fairly typical for my mixed bag of stuff. I sold one adult-sized Halloween costume for well over $100 (I picked it up at a yard sale for $4), but what was more remarkable is that it scored over 850 pageviews (and probably would have topped 1,000 if vrane's counters hadn't gone down), so people are out there looking and buying if you have the goods they want.
My current auctions are much more lukewarm, but most of these are relists and less hot items. Some collectible areas are definitely down from last year, which is always to be expected. I'm not holding off on selling my good stuff, since this is the stuff that is still selling well - it's the more mundane stuff that's tougher to sell, in part due to the current economic climate and in part due to the over-abundance of common items, which was a problem before 9/11 and even before the dot-com bubble burst.

I had one auction end w/no bidders last night. A book starting at 1/3 what it is at fixed price sites w/no reserve. Sigh.

Our sales were coming back, then the Anthrax scare began and they hit the skids again. The last couple of days have been more encouraging. BINs seem to be working.
I'm wondering if anyone has changed their strategy to compensate for everything that's going on or is it business as usual?

There is no such thing as business as usual unless you want your business to die. Only one thing needs to stay as usual: high business performance standards, but even these need to be pushed.
I've been doing reasonably well the last few days after a very slow week, most likely the result of four weeks of downward economic pressure.

Pretty good. I've been to several library booksales lately so have a large number of books to list. I get as many listed as I can, though time is tight. Sales are good. Amazon is pretty good, too, though sometimes mysteriously dead.

Sales have been great for me the past week or so. Just returned 12 days ago from a three week vacation and was concerned about the drop in sales. Was a leery to put up my "good" items, but took the plunge on a few and it was well worth it!
All my items that closed last night sold. Some for a really good price. My books only received 1 or 2 bids, but that's okay since I paid next to nothing for them. The other items did very well with over 200 hits and closed for top dollar. My items currently up for bid are doing great also!
Now I'm typing my fingers off writing descriptions for my other "good" stuff I know will bring in good money.
I never use a reserve or start my items high. Usually starting at $9.99. As an example: One seller had the same item up for sale I had. They started theirs at $49.95. I started mine at $9.99. Theirs never received a bid and went off last night. Mine goes for a couple more days and is already up to their starting price. So, go figure. It's all psychological I guess???
Good luck to all of you with your sales!
edited because I can!

I run between 70-100 auctions a week (new and used plus size and children's clothing) and at the moment around 70% of them are ending with bids and almost 90% of
those have multiple bids.
Much, much better than a few weeks back when I was lucky to rate around 30%. I'm hoping for a happy, happy holiday season.

I've actually had a really good month. Had a big auction of 100 books the week right after the disaster, they did extremely well, but were some of my better items.
Last week's auction, ended this Tuesday, was my "bread and butter" auction, the one that is supposed to pay my rent & main expenses for November. Started off slow, but in the end, came right in on target, strong bidding the final day.
So in spite of my nervousness about things, I can't really complain about my own sales. On the other hand, I've been doing eBay full-time for 4 years now, and I kind of wonder whether the experience I have built up is helping to make my sales a bit smoother now than some others might be finding.

Trading card sales on Ebay - next to nothing.
Trading cards sales on Half.com - slow but steady, they're moving
Handmade items on Ebay - that's what's working for me right now, hopefully that'll continue as I start introducing my Xmas items.
I'm debating over continuing to sell the Halloween items after Halloween or stop them until next year.... Do special holiday things sell all year around?
