Hello Fellow Auction Watchers!!!
After depositing several checks, I endorsed them and wrote "FOR DEPOSIT ONLY" under the endorsement. A few days passed by and I didn't get a record of it being deposited. I called the bank and they said they didn't have a record. I provided the deposit slip and they stated that I had to go back and get copies of the checks. They then credited my account. I would have had a lot of problems if I didn't write "FOR DEPOSIT ONLY" on all of my checks. The bank could have easily said that I cashed the checks and didn't deposit them.

that has to do with your bank not doing its job-ifyou cashed these check at the bank, their record should show taking in checks and disbursing cash, date and time stamped.
if you cashed them somewhere else, ditto.
if it happens again, you may want to switch to a different bank, there is something out of control with their deposit procedure.
usually 2 tellers are assigned to open the envelopes and count cash and record them.

Your bank is MEAN!
If you have proof of the deposit (receipt), then your bank should find what they did with them because you obviously gave them to them. Why should you - their customer - have to go bother your customer to get copies. Personal I would not want to have to go back to my customer, most will not have a copy anyway.
I would demand the bank cough up the funds. I worked in banking for a few years. I know they do that type of thing. Just not willingly.

If you cashed a check independently of a deposit, there would be two transactions on the teller tape. The bank can easily tell if all the checks were deposited or if one check was cashed.
The "for deposit only" is to prevent someone from taking a deposit, pulling out one check and cashing it. It has nothing to do with the bank's ability to research an item.

"for deposit only" has nothing to do with it.
Your deposit slip was all the proof you need.
You should not have needed copies of your checks.
In short, your bank sucks. Get another. And tell your bank why you are quitting them.

Ditto to all of the above. That's just wrong, plain and simple.
If you're feeling particularly feisty, write to the most senior bank official in their organization you can find describing this incident, and cc your state's banking comptroller (or the US Comptroller, if it's a federal bank).
