The seller had a widget for sale that I was interested in, however he failed to include the shipping cost. I emailed him on the 18th, to ask about it and he replied it would be $5.15 with insurance additional.

When the auction ended yesterday, his EOA emial indicated the shipping would be $6.35. I realize this is only $1.20 extra, but his original shipping should still stand, I believe. I'm going to buy a money order for this item tomorrow morning. Should I email him and tell him I have his original emial with the 5.15 shipping or pay the extra.

Give me your wisdom. I'll check back in 2 hours. Thanks!

EDITED to say:

I think I made a mistake in the first post. The first email said, 5.15 plus insurance, the second email said 6.35 plus insurance. OK, now what would you do? Thanks again!

I would ask the seller why he is now quoting a higher shipping cost.

Maybe he has included handling or insurance in the $6.35 quote. OR, he could have quoted based on the weight of the item, prior to packaging, which has now placed it in the next weight category.

Hope you both come to an agreeable resolution!

Keep us posted.... danilee

The same thing just happened to me, only the difference was $5.00 MORE than the original quote. Then, as if I weren't confused enough, the seller sent me another invoice for $10 LESS than the original quote. What is this? Multiple choice?

I decided to send him the amount of the first quote, with a note to please contact me with any questions. Hopefully he won't be hesitant to request more money if it is owed to him, or to refund me if I sent too much.

If the item is less than $50, insurance is prob $1.10 - I think seller added in the insurance. Seller indicated insurance is additional, not optional. Seems like an overcharge of 10 cents versus what seller quoted you. Not sure if worthwile to to email back and forth for a dime.

I would very politely remind him that you had e-mailed him prior to the auctions end and enquired about the shipping charges. Then I would (still very politely) let him know that the charges you were quoted had determined the max bid you would be willing to place on this fine widget.

Enclose a copy of the e-mail he sent you with the $5.15 charge.

I know $1.20 is small change but… it sure adds up!

The $1.20 is the cost of insurance plus 10¢. You are getting what he told you $5.15 postage plus insurance

He quoted $5.15 plus insurance, send $5.15 and request no insurance at your risk--or send $6.35 and get insurance.

Simple choice

I think I'm still not be making myself clear on this.

The first email said 5.15 shipping with optional insurance of 1.10 for a total of 6.25.

The second email said 6.35 shipping with optional insurance of 1.10 for a total of 7.45.

Same item, two different shipping quotes.

Some sellers have gone paranoid with the insurance thing. I personally don't think it makes sense on an item under $20. I'd refuse to pay the additional $1.20.

If I quoted you a lower quote, I'd honor the first one. Possibly it doesn't realize that what he quoted you the first time is different than the final tally.
