I closed my PayPal account about 2 years ago and only take BillPoint as my preferred method of on-line payments which has been working great. However, a buyer has just sent payment by PayPal. Do I just ignore PayPal notice and let the buyer know I don't take PayPal or do I have to somehow reverse or cancelt he payment. I'm not resigning up with PayPal. I've been searching for about an hour for a simple answer to this question. I hope someone can help.
I've been with eBay since July 1997.
Thanks!

Sounds like if the buyer already SENT payment, you are still stuck with your old account and that it didn't get closed properly.

Lottsa luck convincing those dolts at Paypal ANYTHING. Did you try seeing if you could still log in and claim your payment that way? See if you can get that payment and then try closing your account again.

Thank you for the response. I know that I closed the account following instructions and receiving confirmation years back. Is it still possible for PayPal to send a "You've got cash" notice getting the seller to reopen the account?

I tried going into Paypal and requesting password information to see if I could get into the account. The ONLY e-mail address I've used is the current one I use for eBay. It repeatedly tells me they don't have that e-mail on record. I really do believe the account was closed correctly.

Actually, even if the buyer SENT the payment, his/her Paypal account should indicate that it is unclaimed or not accepted. The transaction should not have been completed.

I suggest you e-mail the winner and "explain the facts of life"

They should be able to cancel the transaction from their end.

kahml: Thanks for the advice. Sometimes I just overlook the obvious because of sheer frustration!

"They should be able to cancel the transaction from their end"

Ditto, as long as you do not accept they should be able to reverse it.

Anytime a payment is sent through paypal, the recipient gets a "payment recieved" notice, whether they have a paypal account or not. It is sent to the seller's email address. The buyer should be able to cancel the payment.

Thanks everyone for the concise responses. I've not yet heard back from the buyer. This was a question that isn't easy to find on paypal...is it? I've been on ebay for nearly 5 years and still love auctionwatch.
Have a great Holiday Season!
