awhile back someone posted how easy it is to use mbag to ship books??
well,i just came back from post office ,i want to ship a book (6 lbs plus) to japan, the postal clerk showed me that the requirement is minimum of 11 lbs ,max 66 lbs to one destination.
is this true?
if so,mbag is only feasible if you are shipping several books to one country.

Yes, I believe that's true that you need a minimum weight to ship books using M-Bag. If you really want to get the cheaper rate maybe you have a bunch of trash books you could throw in to bulk up the weight, assuming the buyer wouldn't mind the added "bonus?"

I recently received an M-Bag shipment from the UK (I'm not sure if it's called that there, but my books arrived in a bag). It cost the same to have six large volumes shipped that way as it did to have a single book shipped from the UK using regular mail.

thanks,i paid 26 dollars to ship this book by surface mail (6 lbs).
if this is going by m bag it is 11 dollars.
i dunno if i make it weight 11 lbs, would it still be 11 dollars or would it go up??
but then it is worth trying ,if it goes over 26 dollars,i can always remove the stuffing and go surface.

the M bag belongs to the post office, when you tell them you want to ship in m-bag,they will bring out a heavy canvas bag stamped m bag property of usps, and put it on the scale for you.
now your book will be placed in this bag and shipped and delivered to the buyer.
someone once said to expedite shipping, get a mag bag ahead of time, well i would like to know which post office would let us run around with m bag??
it is a heavy canvas bag which can hold many books,it is definitely not a giveaway

I have spent countless hours waiting in lines at the local post office. Thanks for answering some of the mysteries of those canvas bags.
I can add a few observations that I have made on the bags over the last few years. There may be 2 different sizes of bags, both quite large. I have seen patrons request several bags at once and they have trouble getting more than two or three bags at a time. The clerks never weighed the empty bags. When the patron hands a full bag to the clerk a metal seal of some kind is placed on the bag closure. The patron that regularly use the bags seem to have it down to a science and they simply hand the bag(s) to the clerk and leave, as if they have an account with the post office.
Those are my observations however full of hooey they may be.
