I heard the tale end of a radio newcast and they were talking about a 17 year old girl who was selling items on ebay, collecting the money, and not shipping.

stopwhining, boy, you hit the nail on the head. I remember a thread on here about deadbeats and christmas sales, I was quite lucky at Christmas time and came through without any deadbeats at all. Then I took advantage of free lisring day and did the tables turn for me. I had 11 deadbeats, 6 are no longer registerered, 2 responded apologetically and sent checks, the rest did not even answer initial winning bidder notifications. By the time I was ready to send NPB's, they were either no longer registered and already at a -2, even one with a feedback in the 60's became no longer registered.
I am told but I do not know if this is true or not, but if you now register with a free ISP or a server that allows multiple screen names you must provide some info like a checking account or credit card so you no longer can register with bogus names. Again, I do not know how factual this is. This may just apply to new sellers. If this is fact then this may deter a lot of this chicanery.

latte,
I too tried the free listing day, and I have seen an increase in deadbeats. what is going on around here? here I am trying to sell stuff around my house that I no longer want. people bid on it, win.... and before they even pay for it, they don't even want it any more. Why can't a honest guy pawn off his unwantables to people in other parts of the world?
Valleygirl,
If you ever find out who bettylou's friend is... please let me know.

I have one right now that won't, can't or left webtv. I get a fatal error message, so I don't know what is up with them. I did run across an auction that the seller had 2,000 feedbacks but in the last month had 4 negatives from 4 different auctions and they were NARU. What I find is sellers wait until the 12th hour before sending payment. Right now I have 6 auctions waiting for payment from almost 2 weeks ago. I guess the world is revolving slower and slower.

to be a seller, you must register with your cc or bank account, thats how ebay gets paid,by debiting your cc or bank account.
but to be a buyer is easier,so this hotmail id business is for buyer, most buyers dont have to provide bank or cc info.
i think ebay should make both buyers and seller provide enough info, buyers can do just as much damage.
it seems ebay does not hesitate to suspend anyone who steps out of line which could be reason why yahoo is perking!!
most ebay sellers do not realise how good it is to sell on ebay until they get permanently suspended.

I haven't had a deadbeat in quite some time, but I sell a lot less on eBay right now. I no longer get ticked off at these losers, just file, neg and move on. A lot depends on the merchandise you sell. I sell mostly non-fiction books and classical CDs, so the deadbeat ratio is much lower.
As to sellers, most sellers are either very good or really clueless. I could never sell to bidders the way I see so many sellers treat their transactions. Dog slow response and shipping, poor packing, and stuff that does not match the description. I would quit selling before I lowered my standards to that level.
