Can anyone share their knowledge of where this type of CD would come from? I have come across one I would like to sell. It also has a sticker on front "not for sale" and also it is imprinted on the CD itself. A Promo? Are these legal to sell on Ebay?

Technically promo tape records and CDs are not legal to be sold any where.

and if you use the word promo in your title or discription and some one in the catagory turns you in the items wil be pulled and you will recieve warning or be suspended for tryingto sell it.

Problem with promo item is the person who its given to store radio station who ever does not pay the royaltys one these copy and there for can not be legally sold when sold it becomes pirated goods

The punch hole in the case and the barcode sometime is done by stores so the Item can't be scan at the register.

Some times the punch holes are made by companies that buy the CDs in large quanities for there business purposes such as a company that leases Jukeboxes THese Records or CD are not met to be sold Out right either the Juke box company Must pay a royalty Each and every time the CD is played on a juke box since each time is concidered a public performance.

under contract after so many times Cds are used over time they pay enough Royaltys to own the right to sell off old stock no longer used in jukeboxes some of the CDs in the batch they buy may never be used so you can by the sealed CD with punch wholes in the case and bar code for a fair price along with the used copies.

It is interesting that you can not sell promo copies on ebay, I believe it is stated somewhere in one of their many rules.

Yet you can sell them on half.com as long as you rate promotional copies as "acceptable," and not like new or very good. I have not checked lately, but it used to cover promotional copies specifically in their cd grading system.

The interesting thing is that I can't get promotional copies of a lot of the music I sell since I am not "big enough". But they give me a buck off the wholesale, and put stickers and punch holes nevertheless. These are regular sale copies on which the studio got the full amount, but the distributor takes a small loss to give me an "in-store play copy."

So if I want to resell it I will.
