The Shipping Label Printing capability is currently unavailable.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

The entire website has been hit-or-miss much of the time for the last month or two. I try to look up the 9 didgit zip code for Media Mail packages and oftentimes there are problems and it takes a few tries to get through.

The label creator with DC is stil down. No error message, just a hard outage when trying to access the page.

Hopefully their techs work faster than their mail carriers....

Oddly enough, the Shipping Assistant software is able to connect to the site (via TCP/IP) and generate labels without any problem. It even sent out the confirmation e-mail.

I suggest everyone that has a problem go to the main USPS page, click the "Contact Us" link and e-mail the problem to the webmaster.

At least the USPS will get some idea of how many people are being affected.

Still down hard. I don't think we'll be seeing this function back up for quite some time.

Oh well, back to manual labels the old fashion way.

I wanted to thank you for turning me on to Shipping Assistant. I finally got around to downloading and installing it yesterday. I really like it!

That's what this board is about!

SA let me get three packages out this morning without having to resort to my really terrible handwriting...

OBTW - here's the text from the canned SA e-mail notification (in case any one is curious).

------------
Dear FirstName LastName:

Below is the Delivery Confirmation number you need to determine the delivery status of your package.

Delivery Confirmation Number nnnnnnnnn

Your package is scheduled for shipment on 1/30/02.

This email was automatically generated by the US Postal Service (www.usps.com) at the shipper's request. Any reply to this email will not be received by the USPS or shipper. The USPS has not collected or retained any personal information that would identify you or your purchase from this email.

Thank you,

I do think this is really nice - but I would like to customize it just a little bit. Maybe in 2.2...

Still down hard on Thursday morning. Service was up for a short while on Wednesday night, but appears to be back down.

Anyone else finding the same?

Just got this from USPS...

Dear USPS Customer

We are sorry you are having problems with our site. The feature you mention seems to be working okay now. You might try clearing cache/history on your browser and try the site again. Sometimes the cache will return an error message after the original Internet problem has been resolved.

----

Of course, I thought that was all I had to do, but it didn't work.

It seems the URL has changed - so all of our IE "favorites" will not pick up the new one.

Here, use this:

I wrote to USPS today about this problem and recd the following response:

*******************

We have suggested customers to Bookmark the page that contains the link to
the label itself, instead. That is the page that has the box titled "Print
Shipping Label", where they will have to click on "Go" to get to the
fill-in-the-blanks form. The URL for this page is
http://www.usps.com/shipping/eps_prm.htm

*******************

Seems you have a problem if you bookmark the actual page where you fill in the shipping info....hopefully this will help. Loretta
