A friend of mine just found an FD-73 on sale for $199.00 so you might want to check sale prices before bothering to have it repaired.

Did you check both battery's when you put them back in to make sure they are fully charged? Try blowing some canned air into it might have dust in it and it's not reading properly.

Also make sure the disc's are good! sometimes I'll be using the same disc for a while and out of the blue it won't accept it any more. I've even put in brand new disc's that it wouldn't read.

I sell electronics for an electronic retailer....when selling extended warranties on camcorders I let them know it's a minimum fee of $189 for Sony to look at it. They do not believe me. As for the Mavica, try formatting disk before you insert it in camera...if that still doesn't work, I recommend buying a new one. Putting over $200 in an old Mavica is not worth it

Not to long ago I was having trouble with my Sony. When I called them the told me 2 weeks. I told them I would be out of business in 2 weeks without a camera. They then informed me a their business plan. Within 3 days I had a camera, sent mine back and it cost me $171.00 which was cheaper then I could get one even at the Sony outlet store.
My camera just kept getting some kind of error. It wasn't a disk error, that I remember anyway. It would only take one picture and I would have to shut it off and sometimes the error message would be gone sometimes it would still be there.
So if you are willing to pay the charge, call them back and tell them you use the camera for your business.

I had about the same problem recently with my old F-71. The battery showed that it was fully charged but nothing happened. I bought another battery and everything worked fine. I know those batteries are pricy but if you could return the new battery if it didn't solve the problem, .........well, worth a try, maybe. Good Luck!
