Ok, I received an overpayment this morning. She put the total in the insurance part so she overpaid $31.99. I have the "business?" membership. I think that's what it's called. My refund button went away. Can I refund her that amount without being charged?

I don't know if you are aware, but they did move the refund button. It used to be in the list of all your transactions, I believe they moved it to the individual transaction page. You might want to check for the refund button there. I think the refund button is only available for 5 days after the transaction happens. If you have checked there for the refund button, I can be of no further assistance. Sorry.

The refund link is on the transaction details page now.

Hit the link and the form comes up.

I just noted that Paypal charged a fee on the refund and I still pay a fee when the mistaken payment came into my account.

What's with the fees PaypalDamon ????

Are you saying you paid 2 Paypal fees total?
1 with the overpayment and 1 with the refund? At least you would think the person receiving the refund would pay a fee.

How is this "refund button" better than just refunding them like a normal Paypal payment?

I paid a fee when I received the duplicate payment and it was not refunded, and the buyer was charged a fee to accept the refund.

I assumed the purpose of the "refund" button was to do away with the 2nd fee charge on a customer refund. I see no improvement by adding a button.

Last year a customer paid me 3x for same auction. Paypal collected all fees coming and going. I was hoping the special button would cancel the duplicate fees.

I thought it would not charge fees either. But the fees still show up on my account.

Refund Link

Notice Date: January 17, 2002
Effective Date: February 1, 2002
Due to popular demand, PayPal members will be able to refund all payments received by their PayPal account. The refund link will be available on the payment's Transaction Details page for the first five days after a payment is sent. If the transaction is refunded, all transaction fees will be refunded and the payment will be reversed.

that is what it states at the paypal.com website. it is possible that there is a small glitch. You might want to just send an inquiry about the fees that you were charged.

Since you just did a refund can you let inquiring minds (mine) know exactly how the refund process worked for you.

I clicked on the payment details page and at the bottom there was a refund link. I clicked it and there was a refund form and a space to have a message on it. The payment wasn'teven 2 hours old when I refunded it.

I had some one send me 50 cents, which I refunded on the 31st. While it did show a fee amount of 31 cents it was refunded and the net deduction to my account was 19 cents. The person got the 50 cents. So 19 cents was taken from me, 31 cents from PayPal and the customer got the full 50 cents back.

I've used the refund button and it was a full refund... I didn't end up paying the fees.
