Someone hacked into my Paypal acct. and downloaded $1,700 out of my bank account!!!All I get from Paypal is they are investigation and will take 30-40 days. Meanwhile, I am hung out to dry. Has anyone else had this problem? Beware, do not hook Paypal up to your primary checking account!
I am verified with 180 successful tranactions and have 643 feedback on Ebay with NO negatives, and this is the treatment I get.

Be sure you don't have another person using your computer, maybe a daughter, business partner, renter etc. Does anyone know your password? Think. Now, do you have any idea who it might be?

Oldwestrec---
Sorry to hear about this.
You could try posting this in the Paypal
forum under Actionwatch services with
a heading like:
ATTN: Paypaldamon
Hopefully, he will look into it.
By the way, the advice you give about not
linking paypal to your primary checking account is a good one. When I got started on ebay,
I set up a second checking account
for Internet/Paypal
Whenever I transfer any money from paypal into that account it is quickly transferred
to my Primary account.
If someone was able to hack in they would get maybe $1-$2

My advise..keep a separate bank acct. for Paypal and keep the funds minimal. As far as the waiting period to get your money back, Its a little long but think about the investigations that Paypal has to do. They HAVE to make sure the acct. holder's claim is real, figure out where the money went etc etc. "Real" banks do the same thing. There are procedures to follow.
I have to wonder how someone can hack into an acct. Thats pretty scary! I know for a fact that IF my acct was hacked, I would turn and accuse someone from Paypal because no one on this earth knows my password except them and me.

If a check was written from your paypal account wouldn't that be under your account?
You can see all transactions that are made if you go to the account screen. I get nervous when I think about what could happen but I guess it is in how we live. Dangerous.
I transfer most of the money in the checking acct I use for Paypal to a totally seperate acct not linked to Paypal. It's another thing I have to do but better safe then sorry.

its all bullsh1t when you call paypal you get a DIFFERENT story every time. one person told me the money was already recovered and it is waiting to go back to your account. took 40 days after her statement for me to get the cash.
people hack into your account and then transfer the funds to various other accounts leaving a massive trail and of course their is is protected by paypal.
paypal is good if you DONT LINK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. Link ONLY A CREDIT CARD so if you get ripped off dont matter chargeback and let paypal take the hit they deserve it for not protecting users properly.

Hi oldwestrec,
Please feel free to send me your account email address ([email protected]).
As always, please review our SECURITY tips on the web site about password security. And please make sure that you are logging in at www.paypal.com (there have several fraud attempts through emails coming from paypal-login.com,paypalebay.com,etc.) Please make sure that any links you click on point back to PayPal.

Whoever hacked into my account wrote a payment of $1,500 to a commnication company I never heard of. Since I had $35 in my paypal acct, they conventiently uploaded $1,465 from my checking acct to cover the difference. Then the same day, they used my credit card # to try to get another $800, it was denied. Then they tried $500, also denied, then they tried $200 and it went thru. So now am down $1,700. As soon as they got the $200, it was sent to a Vietnamese pharmacy. A nightmare. The points about using a secondary checking acct are well taken.

sounds like professional crooks at work.
you better think hard how did they manage to get your password?
did you ever receive email which said click on this site and get your bonus??
or we have found these unauthorised charges made to your credit card, click on this site to have them remove.
when you show up at that site, they ask for your password.
there was another thread where someone said once you visit their site, they can capture enough of your data and follow you around and see where you go.
i dont quite understand the technical behind it,kind of like a ghostly possession,a ghost attached to you and follow you around?
or remember that russian wired the entire us embassy in moscow and tapped everything including the motion of a typewriter.??
i know there is a very high rate of cc fraud on internet coming from malaysia, indonesia and russia, but vietnam ??

re: why is it a paypal scam
Read the bottom of paypals website!
"every account is insured up to 100,00 from unauthorized transactions". If that were true why is he being forced to wait! It is THEIR job to protect the customer and that includes investigating fraud on their own $$ not his.
Do you have any bills? If it happened to you, what would you tell the mortgage, power, auto finance companies? "Sorry I cant pay but paypals investigating". What about the kids? You can eat when the investigations over. Take a look under buyer beware- a whole list of paypal lawsuits and unhappy customers!! Wake up folks!! It can happen to anybody and you are not protected!!!

Hi packratauctions,
The user will not lose any money. However, the paperwork needed to complete the claim is required before it can beging processing.
Hi katmommy,
Employees can't view customer passwords. PayPal does recommend that users do not use the same emai/password combination that is used at another site.
Hi REAMOND,
Transactions against a bank account do not occur unless the user is logged in and requests it.
Hi oldwestrec,
Your case was forwarded off to the fraud team. I do know that you had talked to a representative about your case. They should have advised you as to what the procedure is.
