Wow..I am shocked. Ive sent items media mail across the country and they are recd in 4 days lately. Ive even won a media mail item and got in in 3 days from Florida (I'm in NY). Anyone know why the USPS is so shockingly quick with media mail lately?

Must be a new postal virus, cause it is catching!
I sent a box of paperbacks, a CD and a book in one week recently all via media mail with USPS. Two days later I got feedback on one of the items. I figured since I filed feedback on that buyer they accidently filed feedback before they got the item (happens sometimes). Then I got feedback on the box of books after 5 days. And so on. Real unusual. All my packages were headed south.

Items delivered in three days: 3270
Items delivered in four days: 3480
Items delivered in five days: 3722
Items delivered in six days: 3280
Items delivered in seven days: 3266
Items delivered over seven days: 5875
Maximum MM delivery time: 22 days
Minimum MM delivery time: 0 days
Number of Priority Mail (PM) items scanned: 122,440
Average PM delivery time: 3.34 days
Items delivered in one day: 3688
Items delivered in two days: 35247
Items delivered in three days: 38404
Items delivered in four days: 24367
Items delivered in five days: 11914
Items delivered in six days: 4828
Items delivered in seven days: 1999
Items delivered over seven days: 1993
Maximum PM delivery time: 21 days
Minimum PM delivery time: 0 days
The very good delivery stats we see for media mail have been consistent for months. We think this is because the USPS standardized label for media mail with DC looks very much like a priority mail label. We surmise that the media mail packages are often being handled as if they were priority. Check out this URL for the label designs and you will see what I mean:

I use a barcoded zip+4 label for all my packages. I routinely get very good compliments for speed even though most of my packages go media mail. If the package is local, it rivals priority service. The longest it has taken my stuff is about two weeks.

I dont use any special media mail labels and I clearly mark in large block letters "MEDIA MAIL". I cannot see how this can be mistaken for Priority mail. I'm just thrilled that my buyers are paying less then they have to and able to receive media mail in the same time frame as Priority.

I've noticed that mine are going pretty fast these days too, and I don't use pre-printed labels.
Something I've begun doing: On the outside of my media mail packages I write "Your eBay (or Half.com) order, sent ___________ (with today's date in the blank)." I decided my buyers needed to know that I mail promptly and that if they get the item a little later than they'd like, it's the fault of the P.O., not me! I began doing this when I had a slightly negative feedback on half.com from a buyer saying the item had arrived later than the rest of his order. I *always* mail half.com items the very next business day.
Actually, I write the "Ebay order" bit on every package, not just MM, since the Anthrax scare.

We use Endicia, it is wonderful!
Regarding the P.O., In January, we shipped two packages via media mail from the west coast to the east coast. They took 28 and 29 days to arrive. The buyers were e-mailing us constantly. Tracking on both showed they were DELIVERED to our processing center here in our state. After the buyers informed me of delivery, I checked tracking again, and it was the same. DELIVERED to the processing center in our state. What happened to the tracking, I don't know! I called the PO, and they said that not to worry, it was in 'transit'.
Our point is, that Media is generally great for shipping coast to coast, and usually I've seen the packages arrive in appox. 10 days....but seller beware...they can take longer...a LOT longer!

I have found that the biggest delay in shipping is sellers getting the package out of their house and to the post office. I have started a routine of going to the post office 2 or 3 times per week, if necessary, and getting all packages ready within 2 days of receipt of payment, often he next day. Almost all of my packages have gone mdia mail in recent weeks, and I have no complaints about slowness. Lots of compliments too in my fedback.

Media Mail does seem to be moving faster for the most part but I've noticed that the exception is Hawaii. All of the items I've shipped to Hawaii have taken 30 days or longer recently and that's from the West Coast. I wonder if the Post Office literally SHIPS Media Mail to Hawaii? Alaska is bad too but I get a lot fewer buyers from AK.

I too use media mail for shipping, but usually upon request. Really good results. I'm a user of the USPS online labels w/DC for Priority Mail. but noticed that in HarryWhitehouse's post and link to Endicia that there appears to be a standardized electronic label for Media Mail. Anyone know whether the label is accessable thru the USPS web site like the Priority mail labels?

It must be faster for people living in the central region of the US but living on one of the 2 major coastal regions it is still slow to the other coast. Six days for Priority Mail to go from CA to FL is VERY common. 10 to 14 days Media Mail is very common too.
