Two things come to mind of which it might be: 1. a jar opener or 2. a canning jar lifter. These are just guesses.

I used [ image ] and [ /image ] without any blank spaces in the brackets. I don't know if that is different than the img use.

How big is the item? Almost looks like a device used to remove something like the earlier lid remover guess. Looks very itricate for that though.

thanks bidsbids, and rarrifle, I was told when you want to practice you should go to one of the threads with yur name that has been buried and click on edit, this way no one has to see or go through all your attempts. I may try that.

Hi bidsbids, it is 4-1/2"longand when closed top part is 1-3/4" wide, when opened the top part meets and all you see are the holes on top.

Sometimes I can not get the images to come up here. It's very frustrating. You can delete all but one of the edit comments here and place several spaces ( press enter )after your last input to get the edit note away from text.

Now the impression of a garlic press comes to mind. The small size was a hint.

Boy, this seller took a wild guess. Doesn't look like a garlic press to me.

This garlic press in the lot of 5 gadgets looks more like it. Your item can't be a garlic press but could be a similar item.

I have 2 more pictures completely opened or completely closed, so you can see it does not fit a jar or garlic would fall completely out of it, I used the address bidsbids sent to me so you have to click on it, thanks again bidsbids.

The holes in the sides make me think of a lemon or orange squeezer. (I bet some old folks are laughing at us).

I hope it's not one of those farm implements. You know, something like a sheep castrater ( cringe ).

Hi Reenie Sorry I missed your post, been listing auctions & watching the Olympics.
Looks like you got the hang of posting pictures. There is a lot of good help here.

What a mystery gadget that is, I have no idea. But if I had to take a guess I'd go along with lemon squeezer.

bidsbids, It's not an Elasticator (used to castrate sheep)
Just A FYI

My Guess would be a champagne bottle opener.

Hi Everyone, thanks so much for all your input,I believe I found this with the kitchen an openers etc., because no one really knew where it belonged. We had quite a bit of fun trying to guess what it was the day I bought it in the shop, everyone was coming up handling it and guessing. The crazy thing about this is it works opposite a bottle opener,to big for a champagne cork, or lemon squeezer, press etc. The handles have to be pushed outward which brings the head of this object totally closed and flat, Those are my pictures you have to click onto)
However, I do believe the holes on the side is there for a purpose, that is when we realized it could not be for lemons, because the mechanics do not allow for it.I think I am going to throw it in my purse (it is certainly big enough)and when I run across the umpteen hundred other dealers in my travels and adventures, I am going to start asking. One night I brought it to an auction, the auctioneer held it up and asked who can name this primitive, we got some funny answers but still can not figure it out. Thanks again, when I do get an answer I wilk definately post it here. ...thanks again all.

I cant tell from the pictures but if the ends are beveled It could be used for taking the middle out of citrus fruits

My grandmother used to have one that looked like that and when you cut a orange or grapefruit in half you would use it to take the center section out the holes were there to allow the juice to stay with the fruit.
spock here......
