I have a nice beaded gown that I wore once last June. I didn't sell it during the holiday season as my 25th wedding anniversary was coming up and I thought my husband might take me somewhere nice. By mutual agreement, we just stayed home and called out for pizza and watched a movie.

Another thread reminded me that prom season was coming up. Any experienced formal dress sellers here who could give me any advice on selling something like this? Thanks!

I sold a friends prom dress for her last year and I noticed that the ones bringing the most money and getting the most views contained these words in their title: "Ball Gown Dress Prom Pageant" along with the size and color......do a search on completed prom dresses by highest prices and you will see what I mean.......it seems like this title catches most evening gowns of what people might be typing into the search box. Also in your description be sure and add the actual measurements besides the size since they can't be tried on and sizes do differ. I'll be right behind you listing my daughters dress from last year.....

and while you are doing all the measurements, don't forget the length of the skirt.

Nanasturtles: Do you think it is a little early right now to do this? Do you think it would be best to wait until the first part of April?

No, I think you should start now. If you list today it won't come off for 7 days. You email your winning bidder and give them 3 days to answer, but maybe they will take a little longer. Then you have to wait for the payment. If it is a check, do you hold it? If you do another delay. This time is approximately 15-20 days so that is a month for your auction to be complete. Another scenero is if you list and put a reserve on and the reserve isn't met then it is a relist then add 7 days to the above total. List it now. But remember to list everything right and wrong with the dress. Good Luck

I buy a lot of formal dresses online for my teen girls. My biggest pet peeve is sellers that have a picture of the dress laying on their bed, or bunched up on a hanger. I can get a better idea of how the dress fits if a model is wearing it ,or on a mannequin. I have passed on many dresses because of this! And, like others have mentioned, measurements are crucial.
