Hello all!

I received this email from a bidder:

«I just made a bid on your auction #*****, in the amount of $****,what I thought was the confirmation box, was a "buy it now" box and I inadvertantly hit it by mistake. I immeadiately tried to retract my bid,but it was no longer in the system.I'm asking you to excuse my bid. It was not my intention to use the "buy it now" option .
Thank you,
I'm sorry for the inconvenience.»

I tried to cancel this bid but got this message:
"Sorry, bidding for this item was closed for bidding. Bids cannot be cancelled after the close of an auction."

What should I do???

Thanks in advance for your help!
Issa

I would email the winning bidder and tell him/her its no problem and mistakes happen but now you are stuck with the listing fee and FVF. I think that if you (after 7 days) go to the NPB form there are options to why the sale didnt take place and you MAY (I'm not sure) get a credit back. OR you might want to explain to the winning bidder that in order to get a credit for the fees you unfortunatly have to file a Non paying bidder report and that it will go on his record and that you really dont want to do that due to an honest mistake and maybe the 2 of you can settle the fees without involving ebay.

After 7 days, if you file NPB and choose 'mutual agreement' as the reason for non-payment. You will go directly to the FVF page and receive your credit immediately.

I would check their feedback and recent bidding history, if you find any red flags, consider filing NPB to place a warning on record.

Dear Katmommy and BananaSpider!

Thanks so much! I knew that someone would help me but I am surprised how fast I got your reply!

The bidder have a perfect feedback profile and he is not a newbie... I wonder how someone can make this kind of mistake? Anyway I am sure that we will work something correct for both of us. The only things bugging me is that I have to wait 7 days... I received a lot of emails from potential bidders who looks very interested. Well, the next time I wont put the "Buy it Now" option I guess!

Thanks again!
Best Regards, Issa

PS: Sorry for my poor English, I am french and still have a lot to learn and practice!

If it was an item that generated a lot of interest from potential bidders, why don't
you relist it immediately. You know that
the first transaction is "dead" anyway so overselling will not be a problem.

Hopefully these interested bidders will
still be interested. As others have stated,
you will still have to wait 7 days to collect the FVF for the first auction but use
using the "mutually agree" option will allow you to collect it immediately.

You may have to pay another listing fee, but
hopefully this fee will be inconsequential
if there is a lot of interest in the item.
