I need to have a chair shipped from Sacramento to Kansas. Seller says "The package will be approximatly 336 X 36 X 36 inches. UPS's secondary shipping company quoted the $169." But he is willing to use a different service if I can find one. Freight shippers are quoting $280 and up.
I remember a thread about this but can't find anything useful without a working search function.
Does anybody have any good suggestions? Speed is not super important, but I hate to ask the seller to jump through any hoops.

Here's a somewhat unorthodox method for trasporting a chair. Be sure to look at the helpful pictures at the bottom of the page.

I shipped a large dining room chair a couple months ago.
I called my local U-haul place---they use UPS for small packages like this.
They did all the packaging and everything...they did a very nice job.
Materials, labor and shipping totalled around $85.
Customer was very happy with the quality packaging.
