I already mentioned from previous threads that I'm new to eBay, so don't slap me for asking these basic questions- but I'm wondering why sellers ask their buyers to go through PayPal instead of BillPoint, when PayPal's fees are almost double. On top of that, there is so much negative feedback on these message boards about PayPal- are these people that are using PayPal just clueless to their practices?

Probably there is no negative feedback about billpoint is that not many of us use it. I took PayPal from the beginning so I didn't want to switch and I don't want to collect from two places. PayPal is easy to use and I really don't wait 3-4 days for my money to get to my checking account, also I have had no problems with PayPal so there is no need to change.

I accept and use both PayPal and Billpoint. PayPal is easier to use when purchases are combined. With Billpoint a combined invoice must be sent, which can cause confusion for some buyers, especially a newbie. This also prolongs the payment process, which is never a good thing.

"...why sellers ask their buyers to pay through PayPal..."

T'aint the ways tings work! It's the BUYERS who SCREAM for PayPal and virtually ignore ShrillPoint!

The facts as I see them.

1. Most bidders want to use credit cards and Billpoint and Paypal are easy and secure ways for them to do it with unknown sellers.

2. Part time sellers find it easier and cheaper to accept credit cards through these services than to pay for signing up with their own processing account.

3. Most sellers have more sales, especially BIN's by use of these payment services.

4. Both Paypal and Billpoint made serious mistakes when they began, and alienated large bodies of users who post here and elsewhere.

5. Both services probably have shills who post negative comments about each other on boards such as this. This causes the concern you have expressed.

6. An honest seller who does due diligence in processing their orders is highly unlikely to experience any of the problems you have read about.

7. It has become part of selling on ebay.

Hi

I have offered PayPal in all my auctions.
Sure, there is a fee, however, in doing business that is part of the cost.

Buyers like to use credit and PayPal offers them an easy way to do that. If you are using PayPal as a seller just make sure to put the Instant Purchase logo in your auctions. That seems to work for the buyers.

Before I started taking PayPal I had buyer constantly wanting to pay with it. I have had one buyer ask to use Billpoint. I now average 65% of sales paid with PayPal.
