I shipped a package to a customer on 3/18/02 via USPS first-class mail. As of 4/30/02, they say they still have not received the item. Insurance was not requested. It was shipped to a work address.... so I kinda think something might have happened on that end.

Anyhow.... I've seen posts on this board before that have mentioned there is some sort of form you can file when mail is lost (even if it hasn't been insured). Does anybody know what that form is? Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

it is a multi carbon copy form which looks similar to the insurance claim form,it is usually a waste of time, they never find the item.
sending item to work,he should check with the mail room

Stopwhining,

Do you know what the name or number of that form is? Even if it is a waste of time, I'd like to show this customer that I am doing everything possible to help him. Thanks for your help!

Kind of an off-the-wall statement to make mrfoxy. Losing packages has little to do with the Postal Service losing money year after year.
I think they have the best delivery service in the world. I have never had a package lost in 1,500+ transactions. Tell me exactly why "they suck"???

in all fairness,USPS is the still the best deal in town, this is my 7th year selling on the net,and usps not only save me mucho moula, but come through for me,most packages do get delivered .
the only problem is when i have to protect myself against cc chargeback, ups or fed exp is the way to go.

jaleniii,

You haven't lost a package in over 1500? That is an astounding statement. The USPS is not that good. They have lost 3 of my packages out of 600.

Post office...best rate in town...that's a laugh....

3lb package

USPS Priority, no tracking, no insurance, no nothing, you have to take it to them, they will just drop it off in the street in a rain storm: $5.20

FedEx Ground, full tracking, auto insured for $100, they will come pick it up and deliver it to the door: $3.42 (includes fuel surcharge)

You can go to the PO and ask them to trace the package after 10 days.

They send out a form to the receiver to make sure it hasn't gotten there.

Then they send out a notice to the other PO's to see if it got misdirected and is sitting forgotten in the corner somewhere (this is how my local clerk explained it anyway).

Sometimes it is found (or so I was told )

There's something you are not telling us. I use FedEx Ground enough to know that the price you were charged is not typical. USPS Priority is still the best deal in town for packages under 5 lbs.

An "astounding statement"? I don't know about that...it is just a fact! Guess I've been lucky, huh.

I sell computer equipment so for obvious reasons I insure all the packages. When I used USPS they DAMAGED packages, once lost a CISCO router (took 3 months to get insurance money back). Tje lines are usually long. Worst of all I never realized their prices are SOO expensive for shipping items say over 20-25 lbs. I also had packages opened before and the receipant received an empty box.
I now use FEDEX have done so for over a year they are cheaper, pick the packages up from my office avoiding waiting in lines and most importantly not lost a thing nor damaged anything so far. FEDEX are also loyal to their customers the more you ship the cheaper it gets.....try getting that from USPS.

This is just my personal experience I am sure people had problems with fedex also.....just my opinion

For uninsured packages, I file form 1510 Mail Loss/Rifling Report. It is a multicopy form.

I've had some success with this form. Occasionally, a package shows up. Although I don't know if it's because the USPS finds it or if a dishonest buyer was trying to cheat me and got cold feet when he had to sign an official document stating that he didn't receive the package.

You send USPS and its a drag, you send ups with insurance and tracking and pickup and the cust. complains about paying a few extra bucks for shipping. But if they don't get it they want you to pay. I'm stinking with UPS and FED x and let the post office handle my junk mail.

Sorry that was low
