Last night I listed an electric train, and not knowing anything about them, I accidentally listed it under "G" gauge when it is really HO gauge. I got a bid on it this morning, but the buyer had to retract it when they found it was the wrong gauge. My problem is, now eBay won't let me re-list it because it had already had a bid, even though it is cancelled. I have added the amendment to the description, but people looking for HO gauge trains are not going to look at my auction. Why ever won't eBay let you revise the auction, when it no longer has any bids? They must realize there is a problem when someone retracted their bid.

amber, you have to stop the auction early then you should be able to make the changes and relist it with no problem. You didn't mention stopping the auction so I am assuming you are trying to relist when it is already running?????

Yes, please do end auction early. ONe of the best things for a buyer is to find an item that is listed in the wrong category. Will cost you a few nickles, but well worth it.

By the time I went to cancel it, I found someone else had bid, so I wrote and explained to the bidder what had happened, and I would have to cancel his bid, but I would send him the listing once it was on. He was very understanding, and said he would bid again, which he did. Thanks for the advise.

Ebay has this really nasty "feature" in its code.
If >any< bid is placed on a listing, whether cancelled or retracted, the ability to relist the item is unavailable.
One thought is that the person who retracted a bid is supposed to "correct their mistake" - well if the seller changes the item, then the person is no longer bidding on the same thing.
