This sounds like an act of desperation.

This is amazing.

I wonder if the decision makers at eBay even use the internet.

Among me and my friends, pop-up ads are totally despised.

I am lucky, my market is a special niche and my loyal customers will keep coming. However, for general merchandise sellers, this is bad news.

Are eBay management personel Americans? The idea of being unable to leave a web site is especially hated by Americans. It is something in our psyche. The idea that someone can inhibit us from leaving makes many of us want to vomit.

I know I won't be going to the eBay home page any more. This will mean less shopping at eBay for me, as I will now browse less, only do searches from now on.

I love eBay. It is a fantastic marketplace. I make a nice side-income there and I am able to locate items not available locally. But, sometimes eBay does something very, very stupid.

Did they run this by their "talk with the customers" group?

Apparently eBay isn't aware of the public's view of pop-up ads. I can't stand them.

eBay is only aware of their major investor's views. That is why they keep raising fees, and why Meg has publicly stated that she would like to see eBay taking 10% of the auction's final price.

They have to make the money somewhere. They sure aren't getting it from the FVF's like they used to, and the investors expect continuous growth, which is no longer happening (auction counts have remained fairly even (or even a bit lower) for over 6 months now).

I avoid pop-ups (and -unders) like the plague. eBay will drop them when they see the page hits start to plummet.

I have gotten 2 today already. Both are for uBid, and have been in the lower right corner. They are some sort of Javascript, as they remain over any window I have open. I am looking at one right now.

Damn annoying.

I've actually tried to use other sites, for a while ABCnews.com had popup ads, I switched to foxnews.com - Not suggesting that people will go elsewhere, but I will actively look into popup stoppers now, and even switch browesers if necessary if this is going to be the trend. I can't imagine anyone who likes these things, and when I do get them, they get closed before I even take a look at the product.

Just went on to the eBay site, and got a NetFlix pop up.
