I've got two fairly large white polar bears...they seem to be made of a pottery and have this mark on the bottom. Can anyone recognize this mark and tell me anything about it? Thanks, as usual, for any help.

Elvis' middle name is Aaron so I think the letter A in the circle is a definite sign.

Hi blueyes,
I'd be very interested in purchasing those bears. I collect pottery animals. Send me an email if you are interested. Thanks.

blueyes29, you should also check ebay under Rookwood Pottery for the current auctions and the closed auctions, also for paperweights and bookends. Some of the Rookwood pieces do very well.
Good luck with them.

Hi again blueyes29,
A friend just told me that your bears were made in 1935 and you will probably do very well if you list them on ebay.

It's the sign of the BEAST!
Look for a "666" birthmark on his head & bad acting...

Yes, the xxxv states that they were made in 1935. All Rookwood does Very well and quite a few pieces go into the thousands. Having a pair makes them even more desirable. On these you might want to check with a brick and more auction house in your area. Many things like this go through the roof at a real auction.
There is an Auction House in Cincinnati that specializes in Rookwood Pieces. I will try to get the name and email of it for you.

This is definitely Rookwood & the date is correct for 1935. These will bring at least $100.00 each on a legitmate auction. I am not an expert on pottery, but I go to many auctions here in Central CA & have seen pieces of Rookwood bring as much as $500.00 or more depending on age. Believe it or not these are rather new for Rookwood.

Boy, I knew AW-ers would come through with great info! Unfortunately, my pair of polar bears have some damage; the ear is broken off one and the foot area on the other has been broken and repaired...it has a chip too. So, mine probably won't bring the "big bucks" pristine pieces would. I'll give it an eBay try though. Thanks again...
