I really doubt that a free listing day will help sales very much... I think it just kinda clutters up the listings...too much competition.

There is a long article in the Antique Weekly paper about the fall in sales on ebay. Sellers increasing and prices decreasing due to the aforementioned increase.
Example, in 2000 there were 248 lava lamps listed on ebay and selling for an average of $41.55 and a sell through rate of 81%. In 2002 there are 2000 lava lamps listed selling for an average $23.42 with a sell through rate of 49%.
They say sales are off approx. 11% from 12 months ago.
