Now when you go to print a priority label you have to register and you can print a label with postage and delivery confirmation and charge it to your credit card. You can put it in a box or giove it to your carrier upto 5 pounds if it has the postage printed right on. They say only laser printer but I have been using a HP ink jet for months with no problem. I spray adhesive on the back of plain paper.

Someone was smart enough to know they needed something to make up for the rate increase. So why haven't they been shouting it from the roof tops?

I think there are a lot of new services. The one I like the best is if you mail a 1st class package (box) you can get delivery confirmation label on their site and are charged 13 cents at the post office. At least that is what my postal clerk said. I hope so because I mail everything I can 1st class in a box.

Can someone please post a link to the 1st class delivery confirmation? I can't find it anywhere.

Thanks!

It probably won't show up until after the postal rate changes. When I went to my post office and got the new rates it was written on there and it doesn't take effect until June 30. I think that is the date.

Thanks for sharing, gravid. I'm going to ask our mail lady about that. With us being out in the country...will save many trips to town.

ewora - I can't help with the adhesive issue but you can just print it out on plain printer paper and use the clear tape over the 'paper label'. Just be sure the tape is applied flat...so the bar code can be read.

Maybe I'm dense but I printed off the practice label and found that you could only do one label per sheet of printer paper. Is this correct or is there a way to do 2 labels at least. Seems a waste of paper. They suggested adhesive paper and I'm thinking that could be just a tad expensive.

I always paste it down first and then I cover with clear tape. I use stick glue. I honestly think you need to cover the address with clear tape just in case it rains, then it is protected. Don't cover the bar code though cuz if you do they can't scan it.

I don't know why they can't scan through clear tape. My FedEx Ground driver has told me to cover the bar code & the address with tape to protect them getting wet or damaged in shipment.

I've been trying to print out labels at this site. I haven't done it in a few months. It's telling me that I need to install a plug-in from Java, which I've done. Now when I click on the plug in, it tells me that it's corrupted. Has anyone else been having this problem? I'd certainly like to start saving the 40 cents per package again! Thanks!!

I use clear tape on mine and have no problems with them being scanned. I have heard this before, but it doesn't make any sense. It has always worked for my packages.

A very good spray, made by 3M is called Spray Mount (Artist's Adhesive) 10 oz can.

It can be found in art supply stores.

Works great!

Spray Mount is GREAT stuff and as a photographer, I have used it for years on many graphic art uses. However, be careful!

WORD OF CAUTION: The odor and vapor from it is VERY dangerous and VERY flamable. Use only in well ventilated areas and never near flames or while smoking. Also do not use anywhere near pet birds - a whiff of the fumes can kill a pet bird in seconds.(think canary in a coal mine - birds have very sensitive lungs)

In ad agencies and photo studios, OSHA now requires anyone using that stuff to do so only in very high power ventilated "spray booths" to protect others from fumes.

Using in a garage or basement where a water heater or pilot light is inviting fire. I knew artists (stupid ones) who used to love holding a lighter in front of the can and spraying homemade "napalm" on bugs found in the art department at one company I used to work at. This stuff burned like gasoline...

Stuff works great, just follow cautions on the can to the letter....

The indicia the USPS Web site prints are supplied by Endicia under contract to the USPS.

We have found that you can scan both the delivery confirmation barcode and the postage indicium without problem if you use a good quality clear tape to affix the label to your package.

I just used the new feature, paid with my card, and really like it. Wish me luck - tomorrow I will take it to the P.O. for the first time as prepaid. It's over 2# so I still have to take it in, but it will still save time. I guess this replaces the need for Shipping Assistant????

Helen - some Ebay days are headache enough without adding chemicals to the mix!

All joking aside, if you are getting a headache while using a spray can of something, change how/where you spray right away for your health.

You hear talk of "huffing" among kids sniffing glue and solvents on tv nowadays with all the dangers related - well, if you are getting a headache, that means you are being exposed to way too much of the chemicals.

Speaking from personal experience here - my dad has Leukemia that doctors said was likely caused by solvents (Benzyne,Toulene) that he used many years ago as an Air Force mechanic and electrician. Not something you want to have happen to you at any point in life...

Be Safe!

alwaybroke,

Actually the enhancements to the online service now more closely match what has been provided by Shipping Assistant for some time now.

Obviously, the local SA can keep customer information, while the 'net version can't.

There are times I really prefer to load data from my Access customer table to a CSV file - it saves me from typing too much.

You guys should seriously look into Endicia.com. Best 9.95 a month you will spend. They allow you to print all forms of USPS onto plain paper, with delivery confirmation where applicable. And with u-pic.com, you can even handle insurance from the comfort of your eBay chair. The best part . . . since it is a postal account, your daily postman can pick the packages up from you. I ship 5-10 packages a day using Endicia, and the postman comes to MY door each day. Talk to yours - he or she probably would do the same for you. If not, threaten to use UPS. Worked for me!

We have to go to the PO everyday anyway to pick up mail, since we exclusively use a P.O. Box, as our business & home address. BUT, being able to print out all postal items prior to going to the post office, would save endless time for the gal I have who does such. On the other hand, we use a small, rural post office, and they would lose revenue if we started using on line postage, which I hate to do to them, as we get very special treatment from our little PO, since we are their largest shipper.

I noticed a couple of you said you were going to check with your local PO about this or that regulation – if yours is like mine, forget it! I have always known sooner and more about changes than they have. When I first came in with one of the “free” DC labels, they had never heard or seen such, and only shipped it, because I told them about it, but they did have to check with their head office to find out more info regarding it. Any time I take an unusual package to my PO, I print out all the on line information regarding its shipping for them to read, as odds are, they won’t know.

I don't know why they say they can't scan over tape - I'm a librarian at an elementary school and we cover our book bar codes (professionally printed or printed on my deskjet) with tape or label covers (expensive, rectangular cut tape) and it works just fine.
