I went to the sub post office today, they would not take my packages unless I marked on each package what was inside the box. I just took my package on the the main post office 5 miles away.

umm why would anyone in their right mind want to write on the box what was in it?!!! yeah great way to save the theives at the post office the trouble of actually having to open the box to see if its something theyd want to steal.

Had no trouble like that here!
Think: sn0bbish, more than likely was right. The people at your P.O. must be looking for good deal's from Ebay also.

I have been mailing from a sub PO for 2 yrs. Lately they have asked if there were any hazardous materials, ie: flamable etc., but never asked me to tell exactly what is in the pkg. This is a new rule & I think your sub is carrying it one step too far

The morons are all in the post office buying only 3 cent stamps these days. Of course all of the stamp machines in the P O lobby are full of stamps that no one ever uses or they have an "Out Of Order" sign on them.

Anyone check the postal auctions lately? Maybe they're running low on merchandise!

My unfortunate PO counter man is now forced by regulations to ask me every time if any of my packages have hazardous, flammable, etc. contents. He sees me 3x per week and knows I mail nothing but books, but he still has to ask every time.

Last time I told him that my packages were only hazardous to those afraid of knowledge. He didn't think it was funny.

No problems with the one I go to but the wait was horrible. Almost a half hour, I think some eBay person was sending some big ticket items plus very heavy packages. Then the people that were away for sometime had to pick up their mail, last but not least the amount of people in line to buy 3 cent stamps that have been on sale since June 7. What a waste.

My post office usually has a long wait too. In my area way more than half of the residents are from Asia and most of the people in line are sending envelopes and packages to Asia. Very few ever have a customs form filled out. Since 9/11 they have to fill the customs form out in English for the destination and that really throws them for a loop as there is no counterpart in English for many Chinese addreses.

The Express Mail forms really slow down the lines too. The amount of packages sent to the Far East everyday is enormous. The language barrier betwen clerks and customers slows down the lines as well. I swear that many customers come there every day to socialize, do they get tired of the same old conversations with their cat?

AKT,
If they insist that you list the contents of your packages, just mark them "Lab Specimens".

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I shipped a lava lamp through UPS once. I thought it was pertinent to let the clerk know that the contents were both fragile and liquid. Then I told her it was a lava lamp, but apparently she had no idea what a lava lamp was - I had to reassure her that it wasn't "hazardous" as she was about to call her supervisor to verify its status.

My PO has taken to trying to charge me 13 cents for electronic D.C. ( which is still free on Priority Mail. ) Each time they try it the system refuses the charge, the counter clerk says "Well guess you get away with it this time." etc.

I finally printed off the rate schedule for D.C.s from the USPS web site and had it in my pocket when I did my shipping yesterday. The clerk announced I was 13 cents short ( again ) so I pulled out the print off. She read it and passed it to the guy next to her. I ended up with an impromptu conference which ended with one of the clerks saying "It figures. No one in management around here knows what is going on. They always ask us what the customers say the new regulations are."

Get ahold of the postmaster and if he does not satisfy you ask for his superior. They will not be able to come up with a reg to bvack it up.

File a complaint on one of their official forms.
They are obliged to follow it up with you (may take weeks).
I have used this in three different PO's due to clerks claiming "we don't carry that stamp".
Au contraire; if a customer wants it you WILL carry that stamp. It's the rule Jimbob.

I am having trouble with substitute carriers who do not understand where to deposit the mail. On Wednesday, one left all my mail on a chair on the porch and the wind came up and blew it all over the place. Today a different one left the mail at the foot of the screen door on the ground. There is a latch on the screen door with a button that needs to be pushed to open it and then the mail is supposed to be shoved though the mail slot that has been cut into the door. Cannot figure out if the carrier couldn't recognize what a mail slot is or could not figure out the screen door latch but it would appear that something upstairs might be missing or else these people are unusually lazy.
