I sold an item some days ago and received a reply from a different user identifying himself as the winner, he said he had a friend bid for him as he was on the road and couldn't bid....checked with the official winner and they verified that that had happened...no problem there, I've bid for a friend a few times who lives in another area and whose Pee-See bites the dirt all the time...although I always email the seller first and ask if it's ok if I bid for someone else, telling them I'll be good for the payment in any event......
Wouldn't you know, the guy didnt like the shipping quote I sent him. Since I had in fact ball-parked the charge as my post office is a long ways away, I then took the package to the PO and got actual charges which were only 2 dollars different and mailed him again on Sunday the new total...you guessed it, havent heard from him since...I just sent a payment reminder to the winner hoping that they will jog him to pay lest they get a NPB or neg on an item they didnt even want.....anyone have any other suggestions? Is it officially prohibited to bid for someone else, if both users are in good standing at the time?

If you have to neg the winning bidder id then you have to. It is his responsibility to make sure you get paid. Kinda like using someones library card. The library doesn't care who read the book but it is the cardholder's responsibility to make sure it is returned on time.
Good luck

I just had the same thing happen to me, although it was for an amount of $600.00. The word is "my roommate bid on this item as a cruel joke". I was then told she would get her new phone number and I could call her and get the money out of her. Took her 4 emails from me, 2 from eBay & a telephone call over a one month period of time with no response before I negged her. That was her reply when she emailed me after the neg.

Luckily, she hasn't negged me back. Who would be stupid enough to allow their USER ID and feedback to be used in such a way that a neg could occur.

I would e-mail the actual bidder and start treating them like the person as if they were bidding for themself. Give them the friendly reminder e-mail, then the NPB and if no money shows up, then a FVF and a neg. You need to protect your pocket book first.

I bid on a couple of dozen items for a friend of mine but I took care of the entire transaction including mailing the money orders (I told her what the total would come to and she gave me the money).

I will not chance my reputation on the reliability of someone else. Not even a friend.
