I just came back from the post office and I'm quite frustrated. This was the first time since the "rate" hike that I've been there and it may be the last. I shipped a package, one that would have gone for $5.00 the last cycle, to California for $13.00!! I shipped the SAME size package to Japan and it cost me $9.00 AIR MAIL. That is utterly ridiculous! It's cheaper to ship to Canada, Australia and Europe than it is to ship across the continent I live on.

What are other shipping alternates aside from UPS? I dont typically have large objects to mail but they will mostly be just over the limit from First Class to Priority and it just killed me to write that check out today. I dont want to do it too many more times.

TIA

i have heard of airmail taking up to 2 months to be delivered so that may be the reason for the cheaper cost?

No that is Surface Mail you are thinking of. Air Mail is regular, send it get it a week later mail. It should not cost more to send in the US than it does to send to the other side of the planet. That is completely messed up.

I know exactly what you mean. I mailed a package to California and one to Canada...air mail...which is usually more expensive, and it actually cost me less to send it out of the country than it cost me to ship just a few states away.

I believe the PO really messed up this time. Not much we can do about though. After Fedex adds a 2.60 charge for residential delivery the USPS is still cheaper. I don't even have a UPS drop zone anywhere near me, (I live in a rural area)so that won't work for me as I can't afford to pay UPS to come pick it up.

I think the USPS knows this, and keeps their rates just below the other carriers.

Just my opinion of course....

Perhaps you should look into shipping Media Mail through the US Post Office. Sometimes, I use that as an option, but clearly state that it takes approximately 10 days to deliver.
