Hi!
My auction's clearly state: Any and All refunds if warranted, will be issued through Paypal & Paypal only!
2 weeks ago I refunded and auction.
The person Emailed me thanking me for the refund.
But the money is still there unclaimed.
How long do I leave it there?
I sent it, he knows it's there, but if he doesn't claim it how long should I leave it there?

I believe the money is automatically returned to you after 30 days if left unclaimed.

There was a 5 day period where you could refund a PP payment without penalty. Is that still in effect or is the time period longer?
I still like PayDirect's method better, all transaction must be accepted by seller with a refuse/accept function and not automatically accepted. No need to refund any misdirected payments that way.

Why not email the customer and ask them? Maybe they do not realize they have to claim the money. Since they had to claim the money I assume they did not have a PayPal account. Maybe they are having trouble signing up.

It's 14 day's now. I find that a real handy feature from paypal.

Your bidder has to accept the refund or it will return to you in 30 day's.

I know about the 14 day refund.
Thing is he paid with M.O.
And I offered his money back with Paypal.
Like in my TOS.
He knows it's there he Thanked me for refunding, he just hasn't taken it!
My main question here was how long should I leave it there for him, before I just put it back in my acct. since he's not taking it.
If he doesn't have an acct. and it looks like he don't,you'd think he would be complaining, but he's not!

I'm assuming you received your merchandise back???
I think the right thing to do is to wait the 30 days and then if he hasn't claimed his money, paypal will automatically give it back to you.
That way, You are in the clear.

Tell him that you will leave it there for a week or whatever time frame works for you.
Best to just email and ask them why they have not taken their refund as yet, then try to reverse it back to your own account.
"If he doesn't have an acct. and it looks like he don't,you'd think he would be complaining, but he's not!"
If he does not have an account then they can not accept the payment. If they do not sign up then you can reverse your refund without waiting 30 day's.

Why be so one way about it? He paid you by MO, so why not just write him a check & mail it to him. It is obvious to me that he doesn't have a P/P acct because he sent a MO. If I paid by MO, I would refuse to take a P/P payment & lose 3 per cent. He already paid at least 85 cents for the MO. IMHO you are being very arbritary about this.

Arbitrary?
I already paid listing fees,FVF fees, refunded his total plus S&H fees!
Why should I also pay for checks, envelops, and stamps?
At least with paypal it costs me no more.
Plus if he's new and signs up, he will get an extra 5 bucks and I may also to help cut some of the fees I already ate.
It's in my TOS!
All my auction's state every thing up front no one gets any surprises unless they don't read!
And my TOS are not long winded and hard to read. They are shorter than this post!
Besides he didn't even inquire about paper refund he Thanked me for his Paypal refund!
If he insisted on paper I'd send, but only if I had to.

Just let it sit there until PayPal returns it to you. Sounds like you've been more than fair with this person.

He may not have claimed it because he does not have or want to have an account. In my auctions I will not take PayPal

Perhaps you can offer a similiar item and cancel the refund??...I would not want to force someone to use PAYPAL if they did not want to....but then again, how much money are we talking about?? 10 bucks? 100 Bucks?...if a small amount he was probably just happy to know you were happy to refund it!!!

Dad; If I am paid by P/P, I refund by P/P. If I am paid with a MO, I simply write a check & mail it. The check costs me nada, so I am out 37 cents. I file for refund & forget the matter. Not everyone wants PayPal & I don't see how you can force them into it.

It may be your terms, but it may also be a felony in some cases.
You only refund in PayPal. A person pays you with their credit card. Person wants refund. You refund through PayPal, effectively sending him "cash." By Federal Banking Laws, that is a crime.
Wonder if that applies to PayPal also?????

You ask a question. You get an answer. Or two or three or four or more.
