I have a question..my partner & I are venturing a new business. We would like to sell on ebay, but with 2 different names. Is this allowed? We have this main one for business purposes only! The other, we would like to sell "junk", which we feel is inappropriate to list on our good site. What are the rules on this kind of procudure? I have researched it, to no avail! Another reason being, we buy strictly to resell, as well as buy for ourselves...for tax purposes, this is why I question how many accounts we can have. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Any disaster stories, as well, would be helpful, so we know what to watch out for when doing this! Thanks!

I do the same thing - for the same reasons (my husband sells the "junk". The only thing I ran into when registering is that you need to use 2 different email addresses. Otherwise we registered them with the same credit card, address, and everything else (different names, though - although the name on the credit card is just mine).
Good luck!

the only thing i ran into with having 2 accounts is signing up with billpoint. you need a different bank account for each, but ebay is phasing out billpoint from what ive heard so i wouldnt worry to much about that. all i needed was 2 different emails to sign up 2 ebay accounts.

I have two seller accounts. The only thing that must be unique is the email address and eBay ID.
I use the same credit card on both accounts. (I actually received an email from eBay stating someone else registered with the same credit card just in case it wasn't me.)
I also use the same bank account on both for Billpoint.

I have three eBay accounts and one Half.com account that is able to sell on eBay.
Two of my eBay accounts I use all the time, but have them split up for business reasons (One for penny CD auctions, and one for more serious stuff). My third eBay account is inactive, but I may want it again someday.
And don't forget, if you have a Half.com account, you can use it to sell on eBay as well.
As long as you don't shill bid, eBay doesn't care how many accounts you have.

I have hesitated to set a 2nd acct. If I do, can I use the same bank acct for PayPal? That would be my only drawback. I have a chance to buy about 1000 LP's from the 50's & 60's & I don't want mix them with my collectibles.

You can use the same Paypal account anywhere you want. I use the same Paypal account with all my seller IDs. I even allow "Instant Purchase" from my website.
This may change AFTER the eBay/Paypal buyout, however.
Billpoint is another story. See the previous posts for info on that. I still use the same Billpoint account on all my eBay IDs, but it IS more work (I usually have to send an invoice, since checkout won't work)

I thought about multiply seller id's. I mainly selling big & tall men's clothing and plus size women's clothing and on occassion misses size clothing. Also on occassion books and craft patterns. So my thought was for the customer sake in looking at my seller list to separate them by using different id's.
SOME DISADVANTAGES I HAVE FOUND:
I found out from AW that I would have to have a AW account for each seller id. I am on the annual power plan. So that meant I would have to pay $200 for each seller id or have some on one plan and some on the other.
Also, I have noticed that I gain customers. A bidder may find me in the cross stitch patterns, which I occassionally list. I noticed that they then start bidding on my other items. So multiple id's could prevent this.
They were other things I thought were disadvantages at the time I just can not think of them now.
ADVANTAGES:
The biggest advantage I can think of is have an easy to sort throw seller list. I think that would make it much easier for the bidder looking for in a spefic catagory.
OVERALL, my disadvantages certainly out weigh the advantages so I never did it. I sell and buy under one id.
As for the JUNK, I just mark my spreadsheet so at tax time I pull out those items and do not include them for tax purposes. I refer to them as my garage sale.
I am interested in hearing what other sellers concider to be the advantage and disadvantage of multiple seller id's. I do totally understand the reasoning behind a separate buyer id, I just have never done it.

It sounds like I would be interested in the 2 seperate accounts. I think it's a good choice for me at this point. Now, the last note mentioned taxes...I suppose I should put up a whole new question for that....cuz I've not even thought about that! Any ideas on that particular subject that anyone would care to throw in their 2 cents at this point??
