The now-defunct eBay Magazine use to have a What's Hot list I believe. It was similar to Beckett's Sports Magazines Hot Lists and was outdated like the Beckett Magazines because of the two month gap from when the magazine issue was set in print til it was delivered.

This was in AuctionBytes in April.
Extrapolating first quarter data, eBay said four categories now represent billion dollar businesses in annual terms: eBay Motors ($2.5 billion); Computers ($1.4 billion); Consumer Electronics ($1.2 billion); and Books/Movies/Music ($1.1 billion). eBay’s ten largest categories in Q1 2002 were:

WHAT'S HOT on ebay you ask?
Here's what's hot:
SELLERS THAT DON'T SELL and are almost impossible to make contact with until you turn them into ebay as a non-selling seller
SELLERS THAT SCREW BUYERS
DEADBEAT BIDDERS
PITA BIDDERS that ask a zillion questions then don't bid (thank God because you know they would never be happy with the item no matter what)
BLOCKED BIDDERS LIST is hot- my list is getting fuller every day that I come across a deadbeat/slow payer/seller that I hadn't met before.
IMPOTENT 'SAFEHARBOR' policies are hot- these policies allow a seller to bait-n-switch, send you a VILE, PROFANE email, then Ebay can't/won't do anything at all about it.
SAFEHARBOR is hot- do they still exist? All I get is automated responses. They could all be dead lying on the floor and nobody would know the difference. Maybe someone should call them just to make sure they are alive and well. Safeharbor- an oxymoron actually. Nothing in safeharbor actually makes me feel safe or even reassured.
What else is hot? Hmmmm I'll think about it for awhile. I'm sure I can come up with something else.....

SAFEHARBOR WON'T HELP YOU UNLESS YOU ARE A POWERSELLER. I HAD A PROBLEM ON EBAY AND WAITED FOR DAYS TO GET HELP AND MY MOM WHO IS A POWERSELLER WAITED 12 MINUTES TO GET HELP. WHAT REALLY SUCKS IS I HAVE TWICE AS MUCH FEEDBACK AS SHE DOES.
ABOUT THE POWER SELLER THING. I BET YOU FIVE BUCKS IF YOU THE NON POWERSELLERS CONTACT E BAY AT THE POWERSELLERS ADDRESS THEY WILL KNOCK THEM SELVES OUT FOR YOU TOO AS I BET THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOUR STATUS IS. JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE ADDRESS. [email protected]. TRY IT NEXT TIME YOU HAVE A CONCERN OR PROBLEM. I BET IT'S LIKE ZAP!!!!
JUST A HUNCH.
I REALLY AM BUT I ALWAYS END WITH, JACK, A POWER SELLER.
GOOD LUCK.
