Garage sale. My daughter's condo complex had a group sale Friday and Saturday. In her garage she was selling for 6 people besides the Relay for Life items. When I got their on Friday she said she had put a painting away because she thought I would like it for either eBay or myself. What a picture. It was done by an Haitian artist, It had very bright and bold colors with 5 Haitans with native dress and carring fruit and vegetables in baskets either on their heads or in arms. I immediately took it cuz it was really nice. I like pictures like that, not all the foo foo pictures. Well to make a long story short I searched the artist and he has another picture similar for sale for $480.00. I paid $5.00 for mine. I sit here in my eBay room enjoying it. She also had other interesting things like a Singapore Airline Stewardess uniform which I purchased immediately.
Did anyone else have a good weekend. Share your thoughts.

Libra ~

Does your daughter have a RFL team? If so, and she wants some bargain stuff to sell I need to clear some RFL items out. If she is interested please have her email me at [email protected]

Thanks!

Glad others had luck yard saling! We found acres of worn & stained kids clothes, tons of plastic toys, oodles of beat up paperback books, a zillion dishes, buckets & boxes of bric-brac, thinga-ma-bobs, and plain old trash. Near the end of the day we found a young red-headed girl selling ice cold lime Koolaid, Last time I drank lime Koolaid Ike was the pres! Life is good..

Libra, I am not being judgemental here, just asking a question.

If the item is worth so much, why not ebay it and give the money to RFL?

You would have a nice size tax deduction and the RFL would get a great donation.

That is a great idea!
I belong to a group and we do an auction periodically, they would really appreciate it!

You forgot the scratched, worthless Tupperware containers. All I ever find at yard sales is stuff the Goodwill will no longer accept as donations.

I went to a 6-family yard sale plus 2 more surprise ones down the street. For less than $30 I got an entire trunk full + a few things for myself. Good stuff + they had tons of new and great things that I'm not personally interested in buying for resell.

I had just sold the last of my eBay stuff so I am thrilled.

Thanks, JACK. I intend to do so. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll stop at my favorite thrift store. I have a 35% discount card on me (somewhere, panic, panic).

The nice part about the stuff I bought at the yard sales is that most of it is perfect for winter/Christmas. Great timing. Somebody was doing some serious house cleaning!

Yipeeeeeeee!

35% ???????? I CAN'T EVEN GET A DISABLED VETERANS DISCOUNT AT A D.A.V. THIFT STORE. THEY TOLD ME SORRY YOU HAVE TO BE 65 YEARS OLD. NEXT CUSTOMER PLEASE , THANK YOU. HOW ARROGANT. SHE WAS LOOKING RIGHT AT ME.

YA GOTTA KNOW ME AT THIS POINT,,,,,,,I CALLED HEADQUARTERS,,,,,,SAN DIEGO,,,,,,THEY SIMPLY PAY THE D.A.V. FOR THE RIGHTS TO USE THAT HEART BLEEDING NAME ON THE FRONT OF THE STORE. D.A.V. MY A$$........THAT IS NOTHING BUT A PRIVATE ENTERPRISE. WITH A NON PROFIT RIP OFF TITLE. THEY CARE LESS ABOUT VETERANS.

IT'S NO DIFF. THAN THE GOODWILL OR SALVATION ARMY. THEY THROW TONS OF STUFF TO THE DUMP AND THOSE VEHICLES YOU ALL THINK ARE BEING REPAIRED BY POOR FOLKS TO LEARN A TRADE, HAHAHAHAHA. THEY ARE SOLD TO THE NEAREST JUNK YARD. I KNOW,,,,,,,I DONATED MY PERFECTLY GOOD VEHICLE TO THEM AND A WEEK LATER I NEEDED A PART FOR ANOTHER CAR OF MINE WENT TO THE NEAREST JUNK YARD AND LOW AND BEHOLD GUESS WHAT?????? THERE WAS MY PARTS STRIPPED CAR. HAHAHAHAHA, WHAT A JOKE. I WOULD NEVER, NEVER, NEVER . DONATE TO THOSE ORGS. AGAIN. REMEMEBER ALL THE MONEY WE GAVE THE RED CROSS????? THEN THE TRUTH CAME OUT.........YES YOU ALL READ ALL ABOUT THAT JOKE RIGHT HERE AND THEN IT HIT THE NEWS ,,,,,,,,BIG TIME........THINK I AM CRAZY? THINK AGAIN.

I MIGHT TYPE IN ALL CAPS,,,,,,BECAUSE I AM,,,,,,,,IN FACT A DISABLED VETERAN BUT IT'S NOT BECAUSE I AM STUPID. IT IS EXTREMELY HARD FOR ME TO TYPE. SHIFTING IS JUST ONE MORE HARD STEP AND I PERSONALLY DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT ANYONE THINKS ANYMORE ABOUT ALL CAPS. I THINK AT THIS POINT EVEN AUCTION WATCH REALIZES EVERYONE IS NOT PERFECT. WHEN I FIRST CAME HERE DIANNA NOTIFIED ME CAPS WAS CONSIDERED YELLING,,,,,WELL CONSIDER NOT HAVING ALL YOUR LIMBS,,,,,,,,SHE HAS NEVER BOTHERED ME SINCE..

I happened to see a yard sale advertised on the bulletin board outside our little p.o. yesterday. It was the only one in town! (Smalllllll town.) The ladies were selling their mother's stuff, lots of good pottery items which I know I can resell, some old cookbooks, pretty good stuff. Royal Copley wall pocket, etc. I guess it's still worth the effort, huh?

By the way, does anyone know if there's a good category related to mobile homes and trailers on ebay? I have some kitschy wall plaques about trailers that might do all right there.

Wow! 20/20 would love to get a piece of that for their show:

"DISABLED VET TURNED DOWN AT DAV STORE"
news at 11.

My husband was given a senior discount at a fast food place because the girl saw his gray hair (he's way too young, yet). He didn't know whether to feel lucky or old!!!

I live in one of the most expensive area in the US. Homes average $450,000/$550,000 and the average household income is well over $100,000. These are the people selling stuff the Goodwill won't accept. That's why they're rich, they never give anything away. Some of the better garage sales are found in poor areas.

BIDSBIDS,,,,,,I ASSUME YOU MEAN THE GOODWILL, THAT'S WHY THIER RICH, THEY NEVER GIVE ANYTHING AWAY. NOT UNLESS YOU GO THROUGH TONS OF RED TAPE. THEN YOU MAY GET SOMETHING FROM THEM. I AM BY NO MEANS POOR. BUT I HAVE TESTED THESE,,,,,,,,CHARITABLE ORGS. TO THE MAX. I HAVE THE TIME TO DO SO..... LONG BEACH CALIF. GOODWILL CHARGES YOU TO GO INTO THE STORE. THINK I AM FULL OF IT,,,,,,,THINK AGAIN.

Goodwill has it's own auction site and that is where most of the good stuff goes, doesn't it?

There have been rumors about the guys driving the trucks that pick up for these types of organizations and that they also take lot of the good things for themselves. And also some of the workers inside get first dibs at some of the things.

My aunt worked at a Salvation Armry store for years. The good stuff never saw the floor. The workers had they friends come in the back room and get the good items for a fraction of what it should have gone for on the floor. That was a perk for the workers.
