Believe it or not, it's a straw used to drink an Argentinian kind of tea drink. I can't remember the drink's name though. I have one of these! I will ask my husband when he gets home the actual name of it and the drink.
Hope this little bit of info helps!!!

That is interesting and I see that some are also made from chrome or brass. They are called a Bombilla straw.

Does Capa Plata 800 mean that it is "coated" or plated with 800 Silver ( as against 925 sterling)?

Hi, It is for drinking "yerba mate" a tea made in Argentina. I once had an Argentinian boyfriend. He turned out to be a complete jerk, but I did learn a thing or two, so all was not lost!

to earthmum - Once read a whole bunch of short stories (in English) by a renowned Argintine author - now deceased - where everyone sat around drinking mate a good part of the day. Did your ex boyfriend say the stuff was addictive?

It is used in several South American countries, Venezuela for sure. The tea is called tete-a-tete (not sure of the spelling) Tea is made right in the glass with the tea leaves, and the tea is sucked up through the pipe (can't remember the name of it) so that the tea leaves are not sucked up into the mouth.

Oh...ROFL
I just took a bite of sandwich when I read this and laughed so hard I couldn't swallow. Had tears in my eyes.
Thanks, I needed that!
