have you noticed that the residential rate has increased in some areas. Most packages used to be a 1.00 to 1.50 difference, but now I am getting in the 3 dollar range difference. granted I am still making 20-60 dollars a day from shipping, I was wondering if you guys have noticed this or if i have just had a bad string of zip codes.

How do you determine whether an address is business or residential? And if you just leave all shipments on the default of business, will UPS catch it and charge the extra $1.10?
With UPS Worldship software there is a block to check if it's a residential address. The default is for a business address. If you click on the residential block $1.10 is added to the shipping cost.
If it goes to a company address there is a block for company or name and there is another block for attention to:
I've never had UPS question if it's to a business or not. Many customers have a residential address and business address that are one and the same.

UPS also charges for "rual and extra rual " zip codes. The extra $ amount you quoted falls into line with those extra charges. Also, the driver is responsible (at the UPS end)for determining if an address is actually residential or commercial. I send everthing out residential and then get back credit for thoses that actually were delivered to a commercial address. This way I don't get hit with additional charges on my UPS bill. So, if it actually is delivered to a commercial address I get a little break.

Thanks for your replies. I have just opened an account and the web site is lacking on help. I didn't sign up for daily pickup because I already receive shipments 3 or more days per week and can give the driver my packages without the extra pickup fee.
I realize all areas of the country are different but where I live (on a state hwy) there are 2 or 3 houses, then a business, 2 or 3 more houses, then a business, etc. It just seems silly to charge extra for the house delivery when they are already stopping at the business next door.
I didn't realize the UPS driver knew which way the shipment was marked (res or comm).
