mrfoxy76, Paypal can only contact the ISP and request it be shut down. Other than that, it is beyond their control.

Did you notify PayPal? Damon had a notice about a month ago regarding this or a similar scam. Always remember https NOT http when you are going into PayPal.

Here, on this planet, representing yourself as someone you are not for the purpose of criminal activity, is illegal. PayPal does have the the responsibility to report it to the proper authorities and have it shut down since they are the ONLY ones who truly know it is not them. The rest of us can only GUESS it is not the true PayPal.

It is easy to see it is not paypal without Guessing. and Coonr did say they can request to have it taken down and report it. They can't phyiscally take the site down. No different from any other cc scam against any other company. Of course I still can't fathom why he wastes his time responding to any of clubman's posse. Just do like everyone else has on the paypal board Utilize the ignore button on them. It is a lot more productive that way.

EXACTLY this should be shut down ASAP paypal make alot of money from this kind of situation as they freeze up people accounts etc so its not really in their best interests to do so.

I have no idea what you said foxy but I am sure it was brilliant and has something to do with this being paypals fault. yes thats right people I am a phsycic. I can guess the subject of a post even with the user being on my ignore list. But then again I could be wrong, I guess I'll never know.

No I didn't bother. I am smart enough not to go to the address. I did log on to paypal to try to find a phone number and let them know but I couldn't find one. Just an e-mail address where they said they will get back to me within 48-72 hours. I just withdrew all the money from my account for now just in case Paypal's security is lacking. I figure that they will pick up on it here. I am sure others got the same E-mail. I was away all day and I am surprised that I haven't see any messages here from Paypal yet about it but hey it their rep on the line.

perhaps paypal should look at having some sort of notice about these "mirror" sites making as many people aware of them as possible......

feel bad for the people who get duped into entering their information...

I think you'll find that "mirror" sites is a term for legitmate sites that share files for speedy downloads.

As to the waring of "Spoof" sites PayPal does warn. I lost count how many times I've received this notice on bottom of emails from PayPal.

Note: When you log in to your PayPal account, be sure that the website's URL always begins with "https://www.paypal.com/". The "s" in "https" at the beginning of the URL means you are logging into a secure page. If the URL does not begin with https, you are not on a PayPal page.

----------------------------------------
PROTECT YOUR PASSWORD

NEVER give your password to anyone and ONLY log in at https://www.paypal.com/. Protect yourself against fraudulent websites by checking the URL/Address bar every time you log in.

Have you noticed that PayPal has a link called "protect your password" where ever there is a box to enter your password. Have you ever clicked on that link?

I noticed the fraudulent notice had a number of mistakes in their spelling and grammar.

For those who are observant of such things, it has been the tipoff to the last several attempts at misleading people.

It pays to keep your proofreading skills sharp.

mlecher,

From the posts I have read, Paypal does report such sites to the authorities and work to stop them. They cannot however stop them. That is up to the authorities to enforce. I do not uderstand how anyone can blame another for the mere existance of a spoof site.

wonder how long it can go on for

perhaps if Paypal were more customer friendly someone could forward them the e-mails. Lord (and I don't use that in vain) that I have tried. Can't find an e-mail address and the papypal online form only alows for 1,000 letters. Instead of wasting time trying to explain it and then having them ask me to forward the letter I tried to do that period. Paypal is not usefriendly in that way and I will be darn if I am going to get hung up going back and forth with them when a simple forward of the e-mail would tell them all the need to know.

I didn't log in and I did change my paypal password because I am assuming that paypaldamon was refering to me not to roaddog when he said to change the password. I also withdraw everything out of my paypal account just in case and the bank account attach to that.

Until someone stops them and it doesn't seem like paypal is going to do anything so I am assuming it will go on for a least a few more days. Until the y drain enough funds and get worry about getting caught and go on else where.

Hi mrfoxy76,

Yes, we do try to get the sites closed down. It does depend on contacting hosts, providers, etc., so it is not always going to happen as quickly as we would like.
