Just started mailing Parcel Post after using Priority Mail for two years and am quite surprised how slooooooooow P.P. is.
Some packages taking ten to fifteen days from coast to coast. Have had more emails the past two weeks wondering where their package is than I ever had the past 23 months.
FedEx is looking good about this time.

Parcel Post isn't that much cheaper than Priority Mail either. At least it's unifom up till the 5 pound mark. I suspect the amount of items that are sent illegally by Media Mail has skyrocketed sine 6/30. I wouldn't be surprised to see Media Mail being indexed by distance next year like Priority Mail was this year.

The only time I've been able to see an advantage to Parcel Post is on shipments wholly within my state (Calif.). Their rates are not that much better than priority mail, and the delivery times are totally unacceptable to me. FedEx Ground can get my packages to the midwest or east coast a lot faster and for a lot less money. I consider not only price, but customer service in my shipping. That's the reason that since 6/30, everything I send that is over 2lbs goes FedEx Ground.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

The lines at my post office have disappeared even though half of the people in my region are fresh immigrants that love to mail money/stuff back to the old country. It's ironic that all you hear about is that the post office is hiring personnel. I can easily see 100,000 of the current 750,000 postal employees getting the axe within a year due to a slowdown in package and Priority Mail use.

Parcel Post has no advantage I can see. They are very rough on the merchandise and cost almost the same as Priority. I use FedEx over 2 pounds, so far so good.

I have been using parcel post on and off for the past 3 years and must say that SINCE the last price increase, parcel post delivery has slowed significantly!
I too have never gotten so many emails of where is my item?!
Needless, to say I will be paying the extra nickle to send priority

Endicia users see an average delivery time of 6.1 days for media/parcel mailings. 2.9 days for Priority Mail. We surmise it's the official looking nature of the labels (perhaps USPS confuses them with Priority and Express Mail).

The delivery stats for package services (e.g. Parcel Post) have been solid at the value since we began tracking this across our customer base (~1 year).

I'd advise everyone to be really careful about Parcel Post. I once mailed a few boxes from my previous job to my home when I was starting up my auction business. They traveled less then 6 miles and, literally, the boxes were completely in shambles when they arrived. Looked like wild dogs had attacked them. And this was the case for each box. I'm talking about big tears in the cardboard and things falling out - picture the worst possible scenario. I'm now too afraid to ship anything this way. Besides, as pointed out, the cost savings over Priority Mail is marginal until you get to weights over 20lbs or so. And those are the weights where things are more likely to be damaged anyway! Sometimes we need to look out for our customer's best interests, even if it does cost more. A happy customer is always in our best interest as sellers I think.

Parcel post stinks.
Not enough savings to justify the slow delivery and rough handling. And I refuse to pay the postal service for insurance to indemify them against their own rotten procedures.

I could have told you so. I tried PP about a year ago. I had a Graflex Camera with a large case & a lot of extras. I shipped it Parcel Post to a suburb of LA. I live 165 miles north of LA. It took 15 days to get there. Never again. I will use FedEx Ground from now on.

As the Postal Clerk stated to my husband as he was mailing a package to Arizona. If the package is mailed Parcel Post it stands a better chance to get damaged as it is in the mail longer. I suppose that means they can throw it around more times. He mailed it Priority Mail for $2.00 more than PP
