Hi folks...
I am curious.
I am a part time seller (28 feedback and growing!!!)
And just sold a very nice item, for waaaay more than I paid for it, which is the American Way. (TIC)
Long story short, very nice bidder pays so fast I am just so happy. Then I realize his paypal payment is via credit card. I have said overtly that I do not accept credit cards.
I email the guy and explain fees cost to me and show him the price difference and say I can not ask for a fee, so I am denying the payment and I would like other form of payment.
HE emails back that he is confused. SO I email back...okay, NO ONE should charge a fee for a CC, it's ILLEGAL for a seller to ask for one. But (since you are not really understanding me) I will eat the fee and accept the CC.
It is about another 4 bucks and it's kind of a bummer.
Now I haven't heard from him yet, but I am confident that at some point he'll pay (hey if he doesn't there are other bidders who were interested)
So FINALLY(!) how do you deal with CCs?
I just killed myself to the tune of $1.80 on shipping miscalculation, so I would like to finally get this fee thing right.
I know some of you big timers are laughin' but hey, I am still working a couple of angles on reselling.
Okay, thanks for the ear!
Japerton
ps With 28 feedback, I don't feel "swinging the big stick" of "Look dickweed, freakin' send me what I say I take or I neg you!" will work! (Thanks Stusi, I am so inspired by your Hemingway-esque approach!)
Maybe when my feedback is 2800 (or I am 80, whichever comes first - I am no where near 80, BTW)

now I'm confused.
you said he paid you via Paypal very fast.
you said you told him you would eat the extra fee.
what does he owe you?
seems to me you should just ship the item and keep the customer happy.
$1.80 shipping miscalculation killed you? Boy we are on a shoestring budget aren't we?
We have all made these mistakes, that is how we learn.
Make it very clear in your TOS that NO CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Then stick to that.
personally I take Paypal credit card payment and just figure the extra charge is worth the convenience of the quick payment. everyone has their own way of doing their business.

Congratulations on the great sale, but it sounds like you may have spoiled the deal.
As they say, to each their own, but I would never refuse to take the money, especially on a profitable item.
You may have unintentionally caused the buyer to reconsider the whole transaction.
What is important is not who is right and who is wrong, but getting the deal done. I certainly don't speak for anyone else, but to me the credit card fees, like ebay fees, are all part of the cost of doing business.

Seems to me that you should be happy that you got paid right away !! I mean .. those checks can be slow to arrive if at all !!
If you are looking for repeat biz ~ forget about it and just move on !!

Stusi really says THAT?
I had to re read your post, I see that you denied the payment. Wow, like the others said, I'd take the payment, checks and money orders in the mail are slow, and you ARE lucky this buyer did pay so fast.

LOL
Yup...I did #$%@ up didn't I?
Well, it's in the live and learn folder under
"too freakin' obvious!"
He hasn't responded, so I am feeling like a dope.
I hope the deal didn't go totally south...we shall see, the guy is super nice, and here I am being a Homer!
