I have been "lurking" for quite awhile - but do not remember ever running across this. I have an auction on books right now with the starting bid of 3.00. Now there is 2 bids showing - but the dollar amount stayed the same. How can this be? This is not a Dutch auction. Did I do something wrong?

If the bids are from the same person they bid the starting price then bid again for a higher amount. The price won't go up til someone else bids.

Check the bid history - probably the bidder went and re-bid and upped their bid (perhaps they decided they would go a little higher to make sure they won). If there is only one bidder in the bid history, then that is why.

The lone bidder has bid twice, once for the starting price and a second time to make a proxy bid. I wish ebay wouldn't show it as two bids because of the confusion the original thread posters remarked on but also because the two bids by one bidder would be an strong indicator that a proxy bid has been made and a shill bidder has a good chance of upping the price at least once.

I just had one close on Yahoo with 3 bids and still at the starting bid price when it closed. The original bidder had raised his proxy bid twice. Lucky for him I am honest because it would have been easy to have a friend bid it up knowing he must want the item pretty bad.

sorry, I did not even think about that. Normally, my stuff is wanted by very many people, so that was a first for me.
