Can anyone give me advice on what type, brand and cost of a home postal scale would be best. How accurate are they? Thanks again.

it all depends on what you plan on selling.

i bought a 5# pitney bowes scale off ebay for $10. its perfect for me since i sell small items.

search on ebay for postage scales and see what you think you will need.

I agree with snObbish, it really depends on what you sell. For small items an inexpensive postal scale from staples will suffice but bigger items need a bigger base and higher weighing capabilty.
A few months ago I bought a digital one like this on ebay that works well for small to medium items.

If you sell different items or heavier items I love my digital Royal RC40. Weighs up to 40 pounds, and all you do is put in the destination zip code and it will tell you the shipping price for UPS, USPS, and Fedex. Will even do insurance for you. Needs a computer hook to download the latest rates, but after that it's completely portable. Cost is about $70.00 on ebay.

Retail...I got mine cheaper than that - in fact I used to buy them and sell them for a profit on ebay - sold about 30 of them throughout the last year. I don't think I'm going to bother with that again, so I'll just tell you - you can get them at Sams club for $50.00. Ok, let the flooding of the market begin

If you ship very haevy items and need up to #150 capasity the scales at the following link are expensive but are great scales. I bought a set over two years ago off eBay and use them daily.

I sell heavy cast iron products and some of my packages can weigh as much as 100 pounds.

That 150 pound limit scale looks exactly like the one in the lobby of my local post office. One day about a year ago there was the usual long and slow line . There was a couple and they had a three three old child. The mother was in line and the father was trying to entertain the hyper child. The father called the child and lifted and seated him on up the scale and weighed him. Incredible disregard for government property.

I bought a Pelouze K-5 scale which reads up to 4 pounds but continues around so that you can weigh higher than that. Got it at Office Depot, I think, for about $20. It's turned out to be right on the money with the P.O. scales. Most of my stuff is under 4 pounds to send.

Anything weighing much more, I weigh my husband on our house scales, then weigh him with my item, and that works fine for us! Accurate enough for most things, and it's fun making him work a little bit!

I have the Royal RC40 and do not like it. It automatically turns off after about 1 minute, and takes about 10 seconds to turn on. Also each time I power it up I have to change the mode it is in. I wish it would just stay on until I turn it off. I also have a scale that only does 5 lbs but came for free when I signed up for stamps.com it works great.

I use a kitchen scale that I bought on a yard sale for $3.00. It weighs up to 50#. I send a lot of packages that weigh between 3 & 20#. I don't have to be accurate to the ounce, so this works great for me. I have the FedEx & USPS rate charts &n zone tables. In less than 5 minutes, I can weigh a pkg & have the cost of shipping. All for $3.00!!!! Anything less than 3# goes Priority Mail. Everything else goes FedEx.

BECAUSE THIS IS RIGHT FOR ME, IT SHOULD WORK FOR YOU TOO.
