Call Me Stupid!!
I got a message with this as the subject:
Subject: Ebay #1131708092 Mike Pawlawski 1992 Classic autograph
This is the message:
> Congratulations and thanks for your bid!
> Please send $6.00 as cash, check, or money order along with a
self-addressed
> stamped envelope (SASE) with one .34 cent stamp, or you can pay using a
> credit card with Paypal or Billpoint. If you choose to pay with your
credit
> card, you will need
Well I didn't bid on this so I assumed that it was mistakenly sent to me. Nice guy that I am, I hit reply to explain and save someone from a bit of grief. WRONG! All I got was grief!
This message is nothing more than an email harvest to age me and I assume millions of others to begin the new round of viruses! I was immediately bombarded with three Bugbear@mm Viruses that are similar to the Klez but much mor damaging. Norton has raised the threat level form 3 to 4 in the past couple of days and this one looks like a doosey. Damn these infernal virus bastards! Expletives intended if you'll pardon me!
Anyway If I can save one poor soul out there form getting on this mailing list I will feel somewhat vindicated. Watch who you reply to.
I checked the Item number (after I replied) and you guessed it, invalid.

Hey ~ I received 3 of those this past week.
All were for different auctions and sent to my email address like an end of auction notice that someone typed. Since I didn't bid on any of these I deleted them thank goodness Whew .... so glad that they came on days that I was too busy to bother or might have replied !

I got a Bugbear yesterday and Norton's picked it up right away. The scary thing is that it got through the firewall. This one looks nasty. The Symantec guys and folks in Britain haven't cracked it's code yet. All I can envision is thousands of hapless people going in to work Monday and opening this stuff.

Hello!
I'm delighted to have won your auction(s) and I apologize if I'm a little late in getting back to you. Hardware problems have been interfering with my access to internet /email this week.
For Payment I generally prefer Billpoint. Because they are so handy, Billpoint invoices are always VERY appreciated. However, I will gladly use whatever payment method you prefer. I expect to make most payments this Tuesday or Wednesday.
Regarding shipping, p

IF you notice: there is nothing after "TO" which makes me think this is spam. or worse yet, a harvester. when I pulled up the email address in ebay, there is no such user. the item number isnt even valid.

Virus detection was a lot easier when the senders weren't near as clever as they are becoming now. It was only a matter of time I guess.

Instead of opening unknown emails, do a right click and look at contents under 'properties'. That way you can see who the unknown message is from, and even read the message, without it entering your operating system. At least, this has always worked for me, and I have even done that on some 'known bad' messages.

Yes Norton caught it. Norton Is one of the best so I am not infected. It's just a big fat pain.

It was my own stupidity. I did read the message and knew it came form someone else. I just blindly trusted without thinking, it is almost impossible for someone to send an EOA to the wrong address. This is nothing but email Terrorism!

I got one yesterday with the name of one of my buyers as the subject. I was suspicious because it was sent to "undisclosed recipients" and came in on an email address that I do not use for auctions, and had a unusual message. May have been genuine, but I take no chances-DELETE!

You will also notice that quite a lot of this BS $^#%^(&(& emails come from overseas addresses, usually .nl (netherlands).
Wonder if you can set a filter or a message rule to handle overseas messages??

Yep,
Got it here also! Fortunately, Norton caught it! The email came looking like an ebay checkout for an item that I didn't have for sale.
