I have accepted many PayPal international payments with no problems. This week, a buyer from France sent payment using PayPal. The problem was that the option to deny or accept was for $99.35 Euro Dollars. I only accept US dollars, PayPal, or BidPay from international buyers & state that in my ad. I called PayPal customer service, who recommended that I deny payment & suggest that the buyer resubmit payment as US Dollars. I did this. Unfortunately, I think we have a language issue. The buyer emails me asking in French if I have received payment. I can read a little of French, but do not speak or write French. I have written twice to explain, but do not think this person is understanding English. I would appreciate any advice anyone out there has.
Thanks.

You've got two options.

1. refuse the payment and have the French buyer send you a payment in US Dollars.

2. Accept the payment and convert it to US Dollars.

Can't help you with the language barrier. Tell your French buyer you like Jerry Lewis and see if that breaks the ice.

To make it impossible for anyone to send you anything other than US dollars in the future go to your PayPal account, profile, payment receiving preferences. In your Payment Receiving Preferences set "Block payments if they are sent to me in a currency that I do not hold," to YES.

If you're not selling on eBay.uk, eBay.de or some other international site you probably want to stick with US Dollars. If you are selling on international sites it would be probably wise to accept the local currency.

Thanks for the tip for PayPal preferences. I will do that. I posted this same message on an ebay chat board and a friendly person, posted an email for me to copy and paste to explain the situation in French.

hey,a few weeks ago, euro is more than dollar,so if you accept his payment and convert to us dollar, you may just get a few pennies more.

you can go to www.altavista.com and click on "translate" to see what he is saying by cutting and pasting his message. Then use it to convert your English reply into French for him.
