I would like to get opinions of experienced Ebay sellers regarding the email below. It was sent to me as a sample of a letter "not considered Spam on ebay" created for a software program developed to boost sales on Ebay. It looks like spam but after reading the Ebay rules I really am not sure.

Has anyone else received this sales booster software offer?

Here is a sample email they suggest that can be used and they claim it is not spam.

"Hello! We are putting together a mailing list of people who have shown an interest in [your typical type of item(s), i.e., beanie babies, rare books, vintage clothing, etc. - must be very general], as we often have this type of item up for auction. If you would like to be on our mailing list to receive notices of the great items we have put up for auction on eBay, please let us know by replying to this email."

Is your email from a foreign country? I would just delete it and forget it. If you want their items you will find them.

As I understand your post, someone is trying to sell you a software program that will generate emails to a list of Ebay customers like the sample letter shown. I'm not sure on the policy, but I always thought that ANY unsolicited contact with Ebay customers was considered spam. Perhaps one email asking them to join a mailing list however, would be ok, as long as if they never responded, you never contacted them again. I would recommend reading the fine print on Ebay's spam policy before spending any money on a program you might not be able to use, and might even end up getting you suspended!

greengate, any die hard collectors can get email directly from ebay whenever anything new in their category is posted...for a seller to send this type of email out to anybody other than past buyers would be considered spam

I have a related question: Today I e-mailed one of my Half.com buyers to tell her about a book similar to one she bought from me which is on my Half.com book list. Is this spam?

Second question: Does ebay kick us off for one spam or do we get a second chance?

It is not considered spam to e-mail a person that was previously a customer. However, it is spam if that customer requests you to take them off of your mailing list. Go ahead and e-mail that customer. If they respond pro or con, then you will know. If they do not respond, then any other e-mails I would consider spam and a waste of your time as well.

I have received emails like the one mentioned at the beginning of this thread and I do consider them spam even if ebay doesn't! I was going to turn them in to ebay but decided not to bother when I checked ebay rules because it technically does manage to avoid all of ebays no-nos.
