I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the problem of buyers not paying the quoted shipping charges. In my auctions, I state S&H will be "$xxx to $xxxx depending your zip code". My handling charge is clearly defined at between $.50 to $1.00. Recently, I've had three buyers just make up the shipping amount. In one case, S&H was $10.85 and they paid $2.15! One buyer paid the correct amount under protest and then when the package arrived and she saw the postage was even more than I charged her, she did leave a positive. Another fellow just apologized and sent the extra amount. I don't know what will happen with the one that's pending now. I offer to refund their full payment but then there's the hassle of NPB and FVC, etc. How are you folks handling this? Just curious.

I love it when buyers forget to send any shipping costs. I got a BillPoint payment a couple of days ago without the s/h. It cost me 35 cents to refund their payment and wait for a payment with the s/h included.

Before ebay took over paypal I had the ability to only send a billpoint invoice, no unsolicited payments. Now ebay forces checkout into the auction and the buyer can omit the shipping using billpoint.

I am still sitting on a money order payment from August where the buyer sent the payment without the shipping charges added to it and no shipping address on the envelope or the money order.

I sent numerous e-mails to her saying that her item would be shipped only upon receipt of the shipping payment and that I also needed her shipping address.

She responded only once saying that she was sorry and would send the shipping charge payment right away but she still did not give me an address.

I even pulled her contact info and called her but I had to leave a message on her machine. I offered to return her payment if she would give me her address.

I never received the additional shipping payment and I have never heard back from her again.

I send them an email reminding them that shipping has not been paid and that the item will be shipped once it's received.

In over four years on eBay all have paid the remainder except one. That was over a year ago and I've still have the item. I have a ton of these so if they ever pay i'll ship it.

This must be a new trend here in ebayland!
Until a few months ago,it was (almost) never a problem. Now it seems I am going to the mat over shipping charges weekly, and I don't charge a handling fee..only actual shipping plus insurance.
I had a lady win an auction last week and although I clearly state IN BIG BOLD LETTERS TO NOT USE 'REQUEST TOTAL" FEATURE...She requests a total 1 minute after the auction ended. 5 mins. later I got another email from Paypal that she had paid! Her note? "Included is $7.00 for shipping, please insure". Luckily it was plenty for postage. She was a newbie and had me really nnneeerrrvous! She left me wonderful feedback! Another guy I had about a month ago
won an auction for $15.00. I charge ACTUAL shipping. I quoted him ACTUAL 1 lb shipping via USPS Priority mail. He wrote back " You would think for how much I spent on ( the item)...$15.00, that you would charge me only
actual shipping. I'm tired of you sellers trying to rip off the customers..blah,blah, blah. I know he was venting..but SHEESH!!!!
Anyway, I calmly explained everything to him. I agreed to ship parcel post ( which means now I have to scrounge for a box)...but I kind of understood his side. I don't like paying over inflated shipping/HANDLING charges.
He left wonderful feedback also!

Maybe you could.......

They don't send shipping? Don't ship! pack the item for shipping and inform them they have 60 days to arrange their own delivery or the item will be determined to have been abandoned and returned to inventory with no chance of refund.

Also, offer refunds ONLY: If not as described(they don't have it, so how do they know?). If lost or damaged by the shipper and the proper insurance forms are presented(it has n't shipped yet, so the shipper hasn't lost/damaged it).
.................................................

I live in my own little world, but it is Okay...They know me here. [ edited by mlecher on Oct 28, 2002 10:02 AM ]

I believe the S & H non-payments or low payments are a result of eBay's quick checkout summary sent to bidders. That's where almost all of my mistakes occur.
When winners use Auction Watch checkout these errors don't occur.

Hmmm. We don't see this very often, but we don't use PayPal, Billpoint, eBay's checkout or anyone else's, so that may be the difference.

In the rare instances where they don't send enough, I just hold the payment until they do.

Hey, for once fluffy made sense. The problem does appear to be in those automated WBN's and not with the bidders. I always send personal e-mails and have never had this problem.

the automated WBN messed me up as well - I turned it off and now personalize it and manually send it with the shipping included.

Whenever someone "forgets" to pay the shipping, I send them a friendly little reminder, or an invoice from PayPal. Never had any trouble - they pay it and then I ship it. I do not offer a refund for the auction however...the most anyone would get from me is a NPB alert for refusing to fulfill the contract. I state very clearly in all my auctions what the shipping is, so that there can be no question.

I also have eBay checkout turned off - so my bidders don't even have that option. That way there's no "request total" or anything besides the Auction Watch email that I send.

I don't specify terms for any automated check out. But the "request total" button still appears on the item page at the end of my auctions. I have added the "PLEASE DO NOT USE RQUEST TOTAL FEATURE..." but they ( bidders) still do so anyway. How do you get rid of that feature...more specifically, that "Request Total" feature button/ banner? I have gone to my AW and ebay preferences settings, and I don't see where it is offered as an option.

I have a money order I am holding from a Canadian buyer who decided to pay only the US shipping rate (which was media mail) and will not even come close to Canada. I tried emailing 3 or 4 times, never a response. I already filed an ebay notice, and will do FVF. Guess they will be out a lot, because while I will not cash the money order, I will also not send it back to them. It can sit here til the end of time as far as I am concerned.

As far as I know the only way to pull that darned button is to disable checkout & not check the accept billpoint (and probably paypal). It really sucks the way ebaY insists on "helping" us with checkout.

Think I finally got rid of that "Request Total" feature, but won't know for sure until new auctions end. Found the option in
"MY EBAY", under "Preferences", sub-catagory
"Seller preferences", then under "Update checkout preferences". There's a box to highlight "No, do not display Ebay checkout feature". Hope it gets rid of EVERYTHING
checkout related!

I sell very fragile built model kits. I pay $2.35 just for special triple walled boxes to avoid "postal rage", along with rolls of expensive packing and foam. And the time to pack is extensive, time consuming and the plastic wrap I use

Some people do not realize that these costs and time are associated with shipping a product. The for get the "handling" side.
Other people just do not care and would screw their own mother out of her heart medicine just to "get ahead" of someone else.
