Had an auction close on the 28th, had an email from buyer wanting my mailing address so she could send a MO. Husband does NOT want to use P/P. I can't figure out why a buyer would have a problem with P/P. I can't see any risk on their part. Really they have the advantage of a chargeback on a credit card, whereas if they send a MO there is no recall.

There is not much recourse with Paypal even with a credit card. It is however better than a M.O. I prefer M.O.'s so as not to have to pay the fees associated with Paypal.

There are a LOT of people who are majorly paranoid of any internet transaction involving a CC/ATM Check card number. I have some friends like that.

Your bidders probably don't understand how PayPal works, & I wouldn't invest the time or energy in trying to convence them how safe it is.

Many internet users are still paranoid about giving their credit card numbers or checking account information.

It's an irrational fear but the press has drummed it into a lot of heads that credit card info is everywhere on the internet.

My grandmother refused to use elevators.

I like getting money orders because I don't have to pay PP fees and they are safer than a personal check. The thing about money orders that I do not like is if they get lost in the mail. That is a major pain for the buyer.

I had a sister-in-law that sat at home on December 31, 1999 waiting for the lights, phone, and water to go out at the stroke of midnight. She spend a small fortune stock piling food and supplies for the new "dark age" when the Y2K bug attacked.

Some have fears that the media enforces and there's nothing you can do to prevent otherwise. Tell the buyer to send you cash, they'll probably go for it.

If they don't know how safe paypal is they're probably just dim enough to get ripped. I would say it's probably a good thing that they don't have a paypal account.

I remember Y2k. I am a computer teacher. When our new neighbor found out, she asked me if we had 6 months of food and wather put away for Y2K. I told her I thought it was a totally overblown situation and would probably come to nothing. She laughed at me and told me not to ask for food after midnight... I told her not to ask me to loan her money to pay for her 6 months of supplies. We had a good laugh about it on Jan 1.

"I can't figure out why a buyer would have a problem with P/P."

I can't figure out why you seem to have a problem with this buyer.

capo' I never said I had a problem, just curious as why. I like MO's just fine, as no fees. I also like the fast turnover of my $$. I am retired & on a limited income. This helps me go out & buy more to sell without having to dip intomy personal finances. All of my business income is in a separate bank account in a different bank. The tellers all know me when I come in with a bunch of MO's. They always ask me "Hows business?"

I would not use paypal if it were critical medicine to keep my kids alive. Paypal is nothing but crap.

It is not the internet or any "new fangled" way to pay, it is paypal itself!

It could very well be a personal matter between husband and wife.

Maybe one wants to get off of fake money and increasing debts and pay as you go with cash.

Maybe she got a little crazy in bidding and new rules on how family money should be allocated.

Even with e-checks available its easy to overspend and electronically wire off more than one could afford.

Not everyone is a paypal paranoid.....

As a buyer, if a seller refuses to give me their street address, even if I am going to pay with PayPal, they will not get paid and get a big fat neg. There is no reason at all for a seller not to give a buyer their address for payment. This is the first step in better protecting yourself against fraud. I can already hear many saying (sellers) that they need to be private. Nope. Not to your customers. Once you open up to the public selling items, you give up the right to total privacy. Give this buyer your address and get on with the transaction.

I agre with stonecold. I have been selling part time on ebay since 1998. I have used paypal for about 2 years now with no problems. The only thing I don't care for with paypal is their fees. On the other hand, there may be many people who are using credit cards to purchase with when they are running short on cash. This brings in more buyer that may not buy otherwise.

As far as giving my address to the buyer, who cares! I have never had a PO box and have always given my home address. I have never had anyone show up at my door or call me about a transaction. A professional image will go a long way when dealing with the public.

If the buyer wants your address and you reply "what do you want it for?", then I as a buyer, I would have a real problem with that. When selling something on the internet, you really have to make available every realistic way of payment to the buyer. If you ad description said we only accept coins for payment, then you would have very few buyers.

I recently had a customer who didn't want to use Paypal because they had had a bad experience with it. I certainly understand that. Hey, I'll take any form of pay! Just Pay!

The only time I will use paypal to pay for an eBay auction is if that is the only form of payment the seller will take. I pay with a money order or cash most often. The reason? I use a po box, and there is no way to confirm a box number with paypal. I am away from home during the day and it is more convenient for me to pick up the things I buy from the post office rather than having them delivered to my home address when no one is there.

It seems like a quarter or half of the Paypal payments that I receive are from unconfirmed addresses these days. Since most payments are under $25 I accept them. What else can you do, tell them that that is not acceptable? I will miss BillPoint's guaranteed-verified address every transaction.
