Like many others on here I accept credit card payments for small items but clearly state in my auction terms I do not accept
credit cards via Paypal for larger items.
In the past some people tried to be sneaky and send payments for large items via credit cards. I guess they thought I wouldn't bother to look for the payment type in the auction details.
Whenever I saw "Instant" as the payment type I relaxed as I know that meant a transfer from Paypal funds only. Somewhere along the way Paypal has changed that as now EVERYTHING is tagged as INSTANT regardless of the source of the funds. I learned this the hard way today as I just got hit with a chargeback. I had thought the funds were paid from the buyers balance account as the account details had just said INSTANT. After being on the phone with Paypal for 30 minutes I learned the truth.
Great going Paypal, why would you want to make it harder for people to determine the source of funds? Sure I can set up my Paypal account so not as to accept credit cards, but then I lose the ability to accept cards on all of my small auctions. Jeez

No need to do that, what you need to do is set a $$ limit that you will accept via any money transfer service.
As you state, there is just about no way that you can figure out the payment source any longer.
For larger amounts they can pay via bidpay, payingfast if they wish to use their CC.

whenever you accept cc fund whether thru your own merchant account or via paypal or billpoint, chargeback is always a possibility.
if you want to play safe, why not ask them to use bidpay or just buy a money order.

Hi, All!
I read your messages here almost everyday, but seldom post. You regulars seem to cover the important things long before I get here to add my 2 cents worth.
However, I have something that is bothering me about the new PayPal/eBay connection--and want to share it with all of you. Your input would be most appreciated!
I am both a buyer and seller, and PayPal is frustrating the daylights out of me (as a buyer) with their new system for credit card payments.
As a seller, I don't mind one way or the other how my customers pay, as long as they do. If I misrepresent an item, the customer is ENTITLED to a refund, and it is so stated in my auction listings.
As a buyer, I PREFER to pay with a credit card on-line or cashiers check via SnailMail. PayPal, however, has made it more time-consuming to pay with a credit card. They want payment from the attached bank account and, as a buyer, I must jump through hoops to pay with my credit card.
Now, I have to transfer all funds out of PayPal to the account first, THEN go back and pay my sellers. What a HASSLE!
Why do I prefer to pay with the credit card? It is easier for me to keep a clear record of the in-comings and the out-goings of my auction funds. Separate records for separate uses.
Bottom line: The new PayPal system of verifying that it is, indeed, the credit card I prefer to use is SO time-consuming (extra pages to wade through) that I've cut way back on my buying. If other buyers are as disgruntled as I am over these changes, I can't help but wonder what this will do to sales for all of us who prefer on-line credit card payments.
I've been with PayPal since their inception, but I am now looking for other options for paying for my auction wins. Unfortunately, MOST sellers seem to prefer on-line payments through PayPal.

No problem! I give my bidders a choice as far as payments go.
Paypal, bidpay, p.o. money orders, checks, cash, your first born, cute sister, cars trucks, boats, your house.
As long as they pay me, I do not care how they send it!

C2it isnt any better than paypal. Buyers have trouble signing up and you have to go through hoops to provide them with information to verify who you are and where you live.

sellers prefer to GET PAID,if you use bidpay or propay or billpoint,i am sure they will not mind, money is money.
i recently used paypal to make a few payments,it seems that they do prefer us to tap our bank account funds, but it is not a big deal to opt out bank account and use alternative funding,so i dont know why it is so cumbersome for you??
see, paypal does not have to pay discount fee if we use our bank account fund.
and if there is dispute with our seller,we can only go to paypal, not running to our cc issuer and filed chargeback.

from the buyer viewpoint,i can see why they want to use credit card via paypal for larger items, first there is buyer protection,if not paypal, then their cc issuer, second they may not have the fund in their bank account,
may i ask what is the price range of larger items?/

Yes I would be very sceptical of those terms. "spending lots of dollars dont dare use a credit card so you'll be better protected" on use cash funds so you have no chance of fraud recovery from you cc or paypal. Not by any means calling you a fraud but I sure wouldn't touch an auction with those terms. You can set it up to give you the option to accept or deny and number of methods they choose to pay. just change your prefrences and nothing is automatically returned you just simply click the button of choice ie.. accept or deny.

I had trouble with c2it one time. I called their customer service number that is posted on their website and it was fixed in minutes. Once the acct is setup it is easy to use. I prefer to use c2it to buy auctions and love to be paid for auctions with c2it. They are not another paypal, their customer service rocks!
